Title: What did you play today?
Post by: flyboy424 on January 28, 2011, 07:22:00 AM
I thought with the success of the What Happened Today and What are you listening to threads, and given how many gamers we have here, it would probably be worth starting a thread for everyone to share what they've been playing, regardless of platform.

To start off, this morning I've played a little Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun.  I'm hoping to play through all the Tiberium series of CnC games as the last I've played is CnC 3 (despite having already bought CnC 3: Kane's Wrath and CnC 4), and so I want to get the complete story (even though I haven't yet completed CnC 1).

My copy of TS is part of the The First Decade pack, but those who don't have the pack and want to play some CnC will be pleased to know EA have slowly started releasing CnC games as free downloads on the CnC website.  You can currently get CnC (Tiberian Dawn), Red Alert and Tiberian Sun for free (note: They've been taken from the TFD pack so they will work on new copies of Windows, like the copy of Windows 7 I'm running it on).

http://www.commandandconquer.com/classic (http://www.commandandconquer.com/classic)

Yesterday I also played a couple of demos, namely the Mini Ninjas demo (saw a copy for Xbox 360 in a sale yesterday and thought I'd remind myself what its like to help decide if I should go for it), and the Bulletstorm demo (in which I raised my high-score to just short of 12,000 points! :D ).

Yesterday I played AC: Brotherhood and a basketball game with my dad. I beat BF: Bad company day before yesterday.  And today is going to be pretty much the same. Basketball with dad (I've finally found something he enjoys playing on the xbox :P ) and Brotherhoood.

I totally thought you meant a real basketball game lol, but either one is good.
Today I played Elder Scrolls Oblivion, got it on the steam Christmas sale for $10 and it's great. Also been playing some Mass Effect, never played it before and I must say it is quite fun.

Dead Space 2. That game can get pretty intense, case and point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7Qy_4sWs3I

Also playing a little of Dragon Age: Origins, trying to get a semi-perfect character ready so I can import him into the expansion. Should be fun.

Played some Halo 2 with my little bro! It was pretty fun.

Continued playing CnC Tiberian Sun and have now gotten further then any GDI playthrough I've tried before.

I must say I never realised how much I missed hearing the phrase Establishing Battlefield Control, Stand By until I got playing TS again.

Also been playing some Mass Effect, never played it before and I must say it is quite fun.
Mass Effect is great.  I really can't wait until the 3rd game comes out later this year.

And speaking of games being looked forward to, after playing through both of the Half-Life 2 episodes today, I reeeeeally want them to hurry up and get HL2: Episode 3 out already.

Depends how you roll with it.
It could be "Dragon Age: Origins.... again...."
Or it could be "Played DA: O again today, killed this dude, got a new sword that's way better then my last one, and I got the BFS achievement."

*shrug*

Well, in order to mix things up a bit, I played a World for Keflings on Xbox Live Arcade last night.  Much improved over the first game and for 800 MS Points its a great buy for anyone who enjoys games like Age of Empires and Civilisation where you have to build up your city and help your people grow (although in this case you only get 1 city per level and your tech level is set so you can't advance, however you get to roam around as your XBL avatar and earn the admiration of the Keflings by lifting heavy items around to build buildings).

If anyone does decide to buy it I'll happily do an XBL game with you and hopefully we'll be able to get the achievement for trading a collectible with each other (thinking about it I also need the 2 online achievements for a Kingdom for Keflings).

Dragon Age: Origins... Again...

Deja Vu. To try and blunt my pessimism with Mia's eternal optimism!!(With extra exclamations) I'll say that I figured out the Chasind Trail Signs quest(rather, the lack of a quest until you complete it). Figured out how to get the most stuff out of the highwaymen in Lothering, too.

Don't worry Drake, the Dragon Age II demo comes out in a few weeks.  That ought to help give you something else to play. ;)

Yesterday I tried out Orbiter, a free space flight sim.  I had a go at the Apollo 12 mission you can download and after a day and a half (with time sped up as I'm not going to go through the entire week or so it takes to complete a moon mission real-time) I all of a sudden got a message saying I'd died, even though I'd done what the manual said.  It probably had something to do with all the spinning the guidance computer induced shortly after take-off.

Today I'm going to try to get back into Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun as I'm really starting to want to play CnC 3: Kane's Wrath (but want to go through the entire story first).

I've been really getting into Battlefield 2 lately after the BF3 trailer came out.  It turns out that the last updates have caused problems with installing the complete collection, which I have, so it took a bit of playing around, but now I have it installed I am absolutely loving it.  Best multiplayer experience ever, and I've only played offline with bots so far!

I suggest those with PCs and internet access grab the old demo (http://www.filefront.com/3876613/The-Battlefield-2-Demo/) as supposedly people still run servers for the multiplayer in it so perhaps one night we can get together, and hopefully if enough people get the full game we can do a night with the full game.

Played some Fable 2 at a friend's house today.  I kinda liked it, but some of the stuff was a little weird.  I don't know if I like the way they handle cut scenes, like they were trying to do it the way Assassin's Creed did but then didn't really go the full way.  Didn't get very far, but I'm thinking I might get it for myself.

Or just go over and play his copy. :P

Flyboy and I have spent the last two days completing Isla Illocentes and Arica Harbor on Hardcore in Onslaught. I think I may have spelled the name of one map wrong and the other is just the wrong map...

You are right Drake, you were indeed wrong.  Its Isla Innocentes and Atacama Desert that we played on. ;)

Yesterday I also tried out Tim Schafer's (the guy behind Brutal Legend, Psychonauts and Costume Quest) new game, Stacking.  Its such a fun game and once again he and his studio (Double Fine) have managed to make a game completely different to what's in the market.  In fact, I like it so much I'm tempted to pay the 1200 MS points and buy it.

And for today, I just found out that owners of any Dawn of War game on Steam get access to the beta of the next expansion, Retribution, until the end of today.

After being shot in the head by snipers and landed on by helocopters, and even run over by a teammate a few times, I have trouble remembering the things we did.
Title: Re: What did you play today?
Post by: flyboy424 on February 11, 2011, 01:59:56 PM
Today I bought Stacking on Xbox Live.  Its a fantastic game (as I mentioned before) definitely worth trying out.  The cutscenes do feel sometimes like they drag on a bit, and the game itself is something that is probably best played in short stints of a few hours, but overall I'm glad I bought it and will likely go back and get all the other stuff I missed first time round.

Oh, and for those big on achievements, it has 17 achievements instead of the usual 12 for an XBL game.

I played Halo: Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops yesterday.  It's hard to switch from Black Ops to Reach, but I think that by playing both I am improving overall.

I've been trying to get my KoTor II to work on my laptop recently but I'm not having any luck.

Getting back into Dragon Age. Talo and I figures out that I might end up with around 600 hours of playtime in that game.

EDIT:

Okay, I feel like Dragon Age gave me a birthday present. So my group is fighting an Ogre Alpha, big, ugly, with horns. Alastair, a Grew Warden, is suited up in Juggernaut armor, basically what you see jousting knights wearing. My character, who is also a Grey Warden, is wearing dragon plate armor, a more ornate, red version of the Juggernaut armor, and a Cylindrical helmet, the type you see Templars wear. Alistair is wielding a Scimitar that has lighting running down it, and a shield, while my character is wielding a huge, two-handed flaming sword named Yusaris. There's a special animation when you kill a boss. So, we kill this boss, and both Alastair and my character start the animation. They both slash at the Ogre at an angle, both looking like this is scripted instead of a glitch, jump up into the air, and stab it in the chest at angles, and then merge. So, the two character models are now overlaying. My character's badarse red armor, Alastair's cool helmet, my giant flaming sword, and his huge shield make up this single, super awesome character. Blending my favorite parts of both characters perfectly. Awesome.

Right now I'm playing through Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga to get the last 4 achievements I need.  I've already gotten the ones for performing 20 unblockable combos and wearing every hat, so all I need is the get 100 points in arcade (which I should have shortly) and to get 100% completion (which I need just over half the challenge kits for and that is it).

Yes it is.  I created my own RepCom character (or as close as I could get) and taking it on a couple of challenge missions was awesome.  The dodge move he performed was the best I've seen in the game (I think its the same the Fetts use, but for some reason I find it looks better with my custom character), although I now tend to play as the ghost characters more as the challenge levels are timed and as enemies won't engage ghosts in combat its the quickest way through (and also provides an interesting perspective on the levels as, providing the AI player has chosen something that won't be attacked, you get to see the NPCs just hanging about chatting).

I now have just one achievement to go in Lego Star Wars now which is the 100% one, and I'm currently at around 96% completion with just the last 9 challenge kits left to collect.  If anyone wants help getting the cloud cover or arcade master achievements really quickly then I'll be happy to show you the tricks I used to get them.

Today I've been playing a mixture of games.  Entropia Universe this morning, Supreme Commander this afternoon and a bit of Red Faction Guerilla this evening.  I've also just tried out the demo for the Battle: LA game (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/Battle-Los-Angeles/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410b42) and it is way better then I expected, very good for a movie tie-in.  Although its only a downloadable game, for 800 MS points ($10) I think its very much worth it.  Its the first console game where I've had to turn the sensitivity up on the controls though.

Ain't no shame in playing more than usual. Just remember that eventually all the ranking up will practically stop. I haven't Ranked in a week and I play every night for at least an hour.

Perfection medals are the bomb. The way the announcer dude says it at the end of the match just makes me grin.

Today I played Halo: Combat Evolved (aka Halo 1) for a couple hours. I just got past "Truth and Reconciliation" on Legendary. So yeah, I'm pretty bad shebs.

I think we were saying this in another thread, but there's something special about Halo CE...we haven't been able to put a finger on it, but it's just special...

Haha even though I'm not married I still can't play non-stop otherwise my parents and friends would kill me. Or I'd just die. I don't even go to school or have a job yet and I can't play all the time. It's just not possible.

Played some Halo: CE yesterday and then went to a big Halo Fest and played a ton of custom games with my old High School buddies. It was epic, lots of Mtn Dews and McDonald's chicken nuggets were consumed.

My cousins are visiting and one of them brought Modern Warfare 2, so I've been getting into that recently. It's funny, I'd always heard that the Campaign sucked on MW2, and that Multiplayer was the only good thing about it. I found it to be completely opposite, I loved the campaign, but the Multiplayer sucked for me.
Title: Re: What did you play today?
Post by: flyboy424 on April 02, 2011, 05:39:20 PM
I found MW2 multiplayer to be good right up until I got Battlefield: Bad Company 2, at which point MW2 MP just seemed quite bland to me.  Even though it has less modes, BFBC2 MP I just felt more excitement in, and ion fact its probably the game I've done the most MP in and enjoyed the MP in the most.  MW2 campaign was good, and I've been tempted to play some levels again, but at the same time I have been tempted a couple of times to trade it in as well.

I've played a few games in Clone Wars: Adventures this week when taking breaks from my massive assignment, but I haven't had much time to do any proper gaming (CW: A is just a bunch of mini-games).  Hopefully that'll change next week as I'm looking to get myself Apache: Air Assault as, thanks to an Amazon voucher, its come within my "I'll definitely consider buying" price range.

See, I'd have to suggest getting 2 before you get Brotherhood. It's really hard to understand what's going on otherwise. Also, AC2 was much longer and was the better game for someone to start out with in the AC universe.

Yesterday morning I tried out the first of the new episodic Back to the Future Game (http://www.telltalegames.com/bttf) as Telltale Games have just released it for free!  All you need is an account with them and you can get some Back to the Future goodness.  I think I'm going to go back and re-watch the movies now I've started playing the game.

Today I played some Dragon Age II (I wish I had time to play during the week!) and now I am trying to get SimCity 2000 to work on my Windows 7 x64 computer... not going well, haha. But I want a bit of nostalgia!
I didn't think Lizards were that nostalgic.

NFS: Carbon
SWB: Elite Squadron
AC: WW (For my bro, but I actually own a copy)
A random game on facebook (Forgot which, might be Zinga Poker)
NFS: Hot Pursuit 2010
Gran Turismo 5

I played alot (Bout 10-20 mins on each) = 100 mins altogether.

How does someone do that? I spend 4-5 hours playing the same game, resisting any change. That game is usually a Bioware game or BFBC2.

lolz  I can't change like that either.  Unless it's my first time playing a game and it turns out boring, or if something freezes and pisses me off so much I just have to quit, I'm playing the same game for a while before I even think about doing something else.

Today I played some X-Wing Alliance after finishing the long process of getting it working on Windows 7.  So, so good to be able to adjust my shield and laser energy recharge rate, and to manually go into hyperspace.  Can't wait to get past the initial stuff again and become an Alliance pilot.

I played LittleBigPlanet2 and just published my first to levels for LBP2 (I published 14 on LBP1). I'm currently trying to make a movie/cutscene in it.

Then I glitched some old PS2 games.

All this took me was 5 hours straight.

I played more Rome: Total War today and I'm doing really well.  I'm, playing as the Scipii family and so far most of the other factions have been destroyed, with Greece, Macedona, Spain, Gaul, Germania and Thrace all being ousted by the AI, and the Carthaginians getting beaten pretty much single-handedly by me (I had a little help from Britannia in defeating their European settlements while I got the African ones) and earlier on today I finished what Pontus started and wiped out the Egyptians (after they took one of the settlements I took from Pontus).  Pontus decided to start a war with me earlier on (which ended badly for Carthoginia) by trying to take one of my settlements (which is only protected by a wooden wall and my brave Roman soldiers), which 2 raids have failed to take, and they have now lost their capital to me (which is what the Egyptians took).

Before I took a break for dinner Pontus tried to retake their capital from me by sending 1096 men to fight my 575.  Using what I had left from taking the city in the first place and then having to retaking it from the Egyptians (which had left me at just over half-strength) I strategically placed my troops, and thanks to the AI-controlled defences built-in to the wall the battle ended in victory for me with 1019 of the enemy troops killed to just 68 of mine.  Although they breached the wall and the main gate, very few troops got in and their worst move was probably the siege-tower they sent as I had 3 squads of troops to the one they sent through at a time and eventually it got to the point where my men were killing the troops coming from the siege tower faster then they could send them (which is a shame for them as they were spearmen that would have been very useful for defending against my cavalry charges).

So, now dinner is over I can put the second army I remembered I'd had in the area to good use defending the city I took, while looking to build an invasion force to start moving East and take the outermost Pontus territories bordering mine in Africa, and at the same time use the army I sent North through allied territory to defeat the last Scythian settlement and then work south through Armenia and hopefully disorient Pontus enough for my AI Roman allies to start sailing troops across from Greece to take the Pontus coastal settlements.

Veni, vidi, vici! :D

Today I decided to try something different and saw my copy of Warmonger lying next to my computer.  After installing it I tried it for a bit and its not bad.  Its a multiplayer-focused FPS commissioned by nVidia (and AFAIK can only be gotten when included with nVidia graphics cards) as a showcase for their PhsyX physics engine (which is for me the best selling point of the game as PhysX is by far the best collision physics system out there, especially with all the flags and banners that Warmonger has hanging in its levels).  The game itself felt not as good as the physics.  It had a post-apocalyptic feel to the levels mixed with high-tech future soldiers for the players and weaponry.  The game only has team deathmatch and capture the flag modes (at least on the map I played, could be different for each map) and there seem to be maybe a dozen or so maps.  So, not bad really, but not great either, which I guess isn't too surprising for something intended to be essentially given away to help show off nVidia's software.

The past few days I've been playing X3: Reunion (http://www.egosoft.com/games/x3/info_en.php).  It is such a fantastic game and definitely an idea that needs to be taken on by other developers in other IPs.  I expect most, if not all, have never heard of the X series before, so I'll try to explain it.

The X series of games are all space flight sims set in the future when humanity has built these gates that can send starships to distant star systems instantly.  Before X3: Reunion the gate to Earth was destroyed and so humanities new home is the world Argon Prime, which has led to them becoming known as the Argon race (there are a few different alien races in the galaxy: Boron, Split, Paranid and Teladi).  In story mode you play an ex-pirate and son of an Argon hero who tries to help the Argon military rebuild the gate to Earth after investigating something (can't remember what, I never got too far).

The mode I play most is the custom story mode where you basically go around the galaxy freely without any narrative to force you into doing something specific.  I always go for the merchant background as it gets me a nice cargo transporter which over the past few days has allowed me to build the funds to get myself my own space station and a second cargo transport (which soon I'll hire a pilot to fly so I don't have to order it around all the time), plus a passenger transport that is one of the ships hidden around the galaxy that you can claim freely, and after selling a second passenger transport I found (not much of a market for passengers in my experience) I'm sitting with a nice bank balance of around 950,000 credits.  Its that, and the fact you can fly the ships from cockpit view (actually seeing the cockpit though requires a mod) and control them in a semi-realistic fashion (with joystick) that makes me quite annoyed I can't do what I've done in the game for real.

As I now know... :dead:
Beat it today, and it definitely didn't live up to what I was hoping for.  I was all psyched when I first started it since while I generally liked Superman Returns the movie, it was very light on actual Superman-level action, and the game goes and starts out with falling meteors and a battle with Mongul.  Yay!
And then it just sorta went downhill from there.  Metallo showing up the first time was cool, but every time after that was so stupid, and his final boss fight was a major letdown.  Bizarro was all around disappointing.  He didn't even get a cool cinematic fight thing like Metallo. :(  Not to mention that the one thing that everybody (even the people who didn't like the movie) liked, Superman saving the crashing plane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xiwISrp1H4&feature=related), was nowhere to be found.  The only parts I can say I honestly really loved were the Mxyzptlk races since they focused on the one thing the game did great: flying!

I'm taking this crap back... :ouch:

Yesterday I played Battlefield Play4Free and got a sweet kill against a Mig where I just fired an RPG directly up as he flew overhead very low  As soon as I saw him coming I instinctively got out the RPG, lined up and as soon as I saw the nose I pulled the trigger and sure enough it destroyed him, which I expect left him scratching his head a bit.

Today I played Lord of the Rings Online and am now half-way through level 32 with my Elf Hunter.  I also managed to get the mission in Book 2 of the Epic quests done that I'd been struggling with so hopefully soon I'll be able to finish that and be done with the Lone Lands completely.

I also found out today that Turbine (who make LotRO) are taking over maintenance and distribution of the European version of the game from Codemasters on 1st June, meaning on that day players in Europe and North America will finally be able to play together.  So, if anyone is looking to get into a free MMORPG then grab LotRO on 1st June and head to the Snowbourne server.

Yep, went free-to-play last September in NA and last October in EU.  You can sign-up for an account and download the game without paying a thing, but once you get a certain point in the game you need to start spending Turbine Points on quest packs to unlock content in each region.  Turbine Points can both be bought and earned, although trying to earn them will take a while to get you enough for anything decent as you only get them 5 or 10 points at a time.

Reach level 33 in LotRO today and finally completed Book II of the Epic Quests, which puts the main LotR story at Rivendell and the council of Elrond.  I'm already part-way into Book III which takes place in the North Downs but need to gain about 4 or 5 levels ideally before I've high enough to comfortably tackle the quests.  I can probably do one or two more before I'm too low a level to carry on, but I've still got plenty else to keep me occupied for the time being.  Hopefully when I've reached a high enough level to tackle Book III I'll also be high enough to start venturing into the Trollshaws where Book IV is located, as well as being able to go all over Evendim which is still a little too high for me as well.

I've been doing lots of LotRO recently.  I'm now up to level 35 and have started focusing on Evendim, the quests in which got me just under half-way to level 36 within an hour or so of reaching level 35 which is very fast as its been taking me a day or two to rank up these past few levels.

I was also quite surprised to get a quest yesterday asking me to proceed to Rivendell where Elrond wanted to speak to me.  When I got there I finished the quest to see him but the next quest is too high-level for me to do right now.

I still came second in the cop rankings, but when I was racing the cops hammered me with road blocks. Yet more Lord of the Rings Online.  Yesterday I reached level 38 and completed Book 4 of the Epic Quests.  Book 5 will now take me into the Misty Mountains region North of Rivendell, but I ideally need to gain a few levels first before I'll be comfortable venturing through that region.  I'm also going to have to decide what to do about Quest Packs as only VIP members get all quest packs for Eriador unlocked and as I'm only a premium account holder I only have certain quest packs unlocked.

I may end up going VIP for next month though as I've got 2 more characters now that I've created but I want them to have the same features as my main character (i.e. no gold cap, 5 bags for storage, Swift Travel, etc) which I made before the game went Free-to-play and so going VIP for a month will do that.  It'll also unlock all the quest packs in Eriador for that month, so it may be that I can get through to the Mines of Moria expansion within that time in which case I won't have to worry about quest packs until I get my other characters up to roughly the same stage I'm at right now.

Forza Motorsport 3 is one I play.  The Ultimate Edition comes with all the DLC (except one that was released after the UE came out) as well as some Top Gear stuff (Theme, Stig's Car Pack, 90 minutes of clips from the show).

One thing that was left out of that review was that there are full tuning options allowing upgrading everything from engine to turbo to suspension to roll-cage to spoiler, and you can even fit tinted windows in a variety of colours.  You also have comprehensive set-up options before the race where you can adjust things like tyre-pressures and camber.

Too bad that today, as I finished my LBP2 conveyor belt to add to my Prius themed competition entry, my game crashed. All the complex stuff was lost such as timing and counters.

On a better note, I finished my Cross Corvette on NFS:C today. It is a lot more exact than the first one, wth more accurate vinyl designs and even a closer colour scheme. The performance is still an issue, because it is hard to tune it the way they have done it (One item is tuned, but I'm still constantly comparing each change to the actual vette to see whether it is the right one and if I have tuned it right). After I did my gliches to get into secret, usually inacsesible and race-only areas (They are twisty, hard to go through areas named Canyons which you can fall off and be stuck forever. They have only one road to go up and down, making for extremly difficult cop chases), I destroyed 177 cops and lasted 1 hour and 2 mins. This one me a new Chevrolet Chevelle SS for Quick Race. I haven't tried it yet.

The past few days I've still mostly being doing LotRO when I got the chance to play a game, however I also mixed in a bit of Portal.  I managed to beat the first 2 advanced chambers, as well as getting bronze on the first 'least portals' challenge chamber.

In LotRO I managed to break 1,000,000 XP on Wednesday and yesterday afternoon I reached level 40, meaning just 25 levels left now until I reach the cap (until they raise it again at least, which will probably happen later this year when the next major expansion comes out).

You have persuaded me to get it... I wonder if Wal Mart has it... if not I'll just get it online.

Last night I played Reach for a few hours and got the Weekly Challenge on my first try with 3 minutes to spare

Unbelievable. I played for like forty-five minutes tonight, right after I finished the Campaign. It's really fun, I still have to get accustomed to it, though.

I played plenty of Halo tonight and I almost had two perfections. I had 27 kills in each game and it was in the last minute of the game that I was killed. I wasn't too upset... Getting an Untouchable (25 kills without dying) and a Cutting Crew (15 Sword Kills without dying) made it worth not snagging the Perfection.

Today has been good for me so far. I did that massive update for Bad Company 2 (I haven't got around to doing it until today) and did well for a first match in a whille. I got the Assualt Rifle Effeciency Pin a couple of times in one Rush match, along with the Marksman and M-Com Station Defender Pins twice. I was also part of the best squad, earning me the Gold Squad Pin, and came just short of being the best player.

I played a bit of Smuggler's Run 2. I started a new Campaign and have just unlocked Veitnam. I might get around to finishing Veitnam today, but I might play more Battlefield.

MORE BAD COMPANY 2! Today, I did the best I could do with a little brother nagging in my ear to get off the PS3. I must've won 3 out of the 4 games I played, but I wasn't sure about the last because I went out before the end result was shown. Thirst has its bad times in life!

More Smugglers Run 2 aswell. WIth a little bit of LBP2. But I didn't do much on them.

I played that bit 44.5 times.
I've done it probably double that.  I always do great right until the end (okay, there's been a time or two that I clipped some gunpowder barrels on the way, but they don't count!) and end up wedged in a corner where the last frikkin enemy tank gets me.  But other then that, I've finished everything else, even flag/feather/treasure collecting.

More BF:BC 2. All I know is I set up the win for my team, because me and my squad broke through on Harvest Day Rush to being in the best postition. We stopped the tanks with Anti-Tank mines, I picked of the guys-on-bikes, and our medic took care of casulaties. I also earned the SVU Gold Star Pin (Or was it the M4A1?... I'm not sure).

I have also nearly completed the Smugglers Run 2 campaign... the chopper in the level is so annoying. Why the hell does it go towards the police-infested area?

I've been a little over the place with games recently.  Apache: Air Assault, both Battlefield Bad Company games, GRAW 1, and yesterday I got back into Fable II (after playing the Fable III demo).  Today I'm probably going to end up spending all day on Fable II as well, and the same again for the rest of the weekend.  If anyone wants to join me to get the co-op achievements then let me know.

I'm also trying to decide what new game to get myself to keep me occupied over the summer until Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine is released.  Currently its between:  Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Da Vinci Edition), Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Fable III, Portal 2, Homefront and Metro 2033.  At the moment, after playing the demo, Fable III is just taking it at the moment, but I'm still not entirely sure which to get.

I got Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood today and so far I'm enjoying it.  I was surprised when I opened the packet it arrived in to find a small cardboard box encasing the plastic case itself, but then I did order the Da Vinci Edition and I guess Ubisoft wasn't happy with just putting the DLC code inside the case.  I've been playing it all day, and just now I was surprised when my dad notified me that dinner was ready as the last time I checked my clock it was 3:00 PM, so I managed to spend 3 hours playing without realising how long I'd spent.  Sure sign of a great game. ;)

I finished the main story of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood this morning and have just played through the DLC story.  I'd say it s around 3 hours to go through and is a pretty good story.  Time-wise its set in 1506 and seems to be between sequences 8 and 9.  The DLC story also had a big twist at the end which made it feel a bit like the Arrival DLC in that its probably trying to better setting you up for the next game.

There is more to the DLC then just the story though.  It also has 2 new single-player areas to explore, the Aquaducts and the Trajan Market, which both have their own side-quests.  On the multiplayer side you get 6 new characters to choose from: The Knight, The Harlequin, The Dama Rossa, The Marquis, The Officer and The Pariah; plus a new map, Alhambra, and 2 new modes: Escort and Assassinate.

And then there are also 10 new achievements (all single-player) for those of us into that sort of thing.

Recently I've been getting back into X-Wing Alliance and OMG is it good.  I'm nearly half-way through the story and it is just so fantastic to be flying Rebel starfighters in battles against the Empire, especially as with X-Wing you get a feeling that you really are in control of the ship due to all the things you can adjust (shield set to fore/aft/even, laser and shield recharge rates, if any turrets fitted are locked forward or are in defensive mode, etc).  Its also exciting to get some story set between the evacuation of Hoth (which the game starts just after) and the Battle of Endor (which I read is playable later in the game!), as well as being assigned to operating from the Mon Calamari cruiser Liberty (which is the one that was destroyed by the Death Star II when the Emperor revealed it was operational).

So, I'm likely to be playing it until I reach the end of disk 2 as unfortunately the copy I got has no disk 3 in and so unless I can acquire one or simply find a no-cd patch to install then I'll be unable to complete it, and will probably get DosBox going to play my copy of the original X-Wing in, and go through that instead (forget Halo, X-Wing is a game that needs a HD remake).

Today in Bad Company 2 I have finished all the kits (Medic, Recon, Assault, Engineer and vehicle) and I am now Warrant Officer II (Level 23) with my friend who has had the game longer than me and plays it more than me is Level 24. Says alot to me.

I also decided to play a bit of Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Carbon. I am planning to record some of it and created a fan-based story (Seeing as the games directly follow on from each other) even though someone has already (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g0O6LhGItM) done (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUuauWsTchQ&feature=watch_response_rev) it. I can do the Most Wanted part on the PC but I'll have to do Carbon on my PS2, so keeping the quality level up will be a challenge.

I might start it in the summer holidays.

Gran Turismo 5. Completed Dream Car Championship, car I've been searching for ever since I got the game found (But can't be bought. I have to make 13 million in 4 races  :( ). I also have managed to do win one time trial on the Red Bul X2010 (Used to be X1) challenge. Crazy hard, crazy fast.

I played a bit of split-screen CoD 6 with my bro because he wouldnt stop nagging me. I won with 7050 points while he had 4500.

Gran Turismo 3. I got the car I mentioned earlier for GT5 (It's called the Ford GT40 Race Car) by doing a tournament which has taken me 2 days to finish.

FINALY! ONE MORE RACE FOR THE X1 CHALLENGE! Suzuka circuit. Find a course map. Think about trying to do that in the fastest accelerating car ever created. In 2 mins and 22 secs aswell.

Also, Nurburgring for the X1 finished (Obviously). Even though it is the first lesson, I found it harder to do than Monza (Which is second, and I did it first).

And...

Bit of BF:BC2. Not alot, just finished levelling up to rank 26.

Okay, today I finished the Profesional Series in GT on Gran Turismo 5. I find it funny how I did Expert first. Anyway, I am also dissapointed that the car I want has appeared in the Used Car Dealership, but I still don't have enough! I need to earn somewhere around 10 million in 5 races...

Today I signed up to online distribution service GamersGate as they had a 65% off one day promotion on the Cities in Motion Complete pack and I must say I'm very impressed with it.  Although I prefer the Steam method of having desktop software that you run to take car of everything, the fact that GamersGate has achievements for your profile and a rewards system that lets loyal members get free games is a definite hook for me.

As for Cities in Motion, I bought the complete pack and have been playing it all day.  As ever with business management games I've tended to loose quite a bit of money, but I'm now getting the hang of the different cities and transport types I think soon I should be able to start making some highly profitable public transport system.

I think through my entire police career I used about 20 full NOS boosts.

Today I played some more Gran Turismo 5. I entered the Compact Car Series Seasonal Event (They are special events that give big boosts of money for skillful drivers) with a Mini Cooper S '07. I tuned it a little and now it handles like a real racer, but it's still a bit slow. But I finished the entire event in 1st.  :D
I also reached 10 million credits. 10 million more and then I can buy any car I want.  ;)
My Ferrari Enzo also won me some Ferrari exclusive Seasonal Events. My Castrol TOMS Supra won my the Super GT series.

lol. Today I didn't use my Red Bull X2010 (Picture in my signature) today. Strange.  :D

I've been continuing my Insane difficulty playthrough of Mass Effect 2 today.  This is the second one I've started as on my previous one, using an imported ME2 character, I'm stuck at Horizon unable to get past the husks.  This new one uses an imported ME1 character (meaning I start at a low level) and I cannot tell you how much easier it is to go through the missions.

When it comes to Insane difficulty playthroughs in Mass Effect games I'd say import previous save in ME1 (the higher the better) and import ME1 save for ME2.

This evening I've been playing X-Wing Alliance and I've found out that I'm a natural A-Wing pilot.  Of course, I'm good in all Alliance craft but there is something about the A-Wing that seems to work well with my flying style and as a result I'm even better then I normally am (like facing off against 4 squadrons of TIEs, 2 of fighters and 2 of interceptors, with just one A-Wing wingman and coming out with only damage from a small collision with an Interceptor 8) ).  If this keeps up it may just edge out the B-Wing as my favourite craft.

After he left, I continued on from where we left off in the campaign and played that for quite a while. I need to get through it quickly, because I've suddenly got several games to play. There's Battlefield 3 multiplayer, Gears of War 3 Campaign and Multiplayer, and Mass Effect 2.

Looking like a fun few weeks of gaming ahead :)

Just turn it off, and tell your friends! Which reminds me. One of my friends did the campaign on easy in 4 hours. I did it on hard, with no aim assist, in 10. He still thinks he is better than me.

WHAT WORLD IS THIS?

Today more Battlefield 3. Multiplayer M4A1 service star earned. Three knife kills in one life. Highest streak: 14. Squad points scored: Don't know, but well over a thousand. Best match score: 5890 (Conquest, Tehran Highway). Team: US.

BATTLEFIELD 3. ACOG scope for M416 unlocked, and I started using the Grenade Launcher again. I don't know how long it will last, though.

I have also decided to use the Type 88 LMG I got with the Physical Warfare Pack, and I am impressed. I will use it more in the future.

Thank you for the question, Ky! Truth be told, I am ambivalent. Morrowind to Oblivion was a graphical orgy, but the gameplay suffered. Anyone who has spent OVER 9000 hours wandering morrowind likely grows disgruntled with the limited replay value of oblivion :X
If skyrim takes another step in that direction, I expect it will let you pick 1 skill, make you sit through about 20 minutes of talking and a cutscene that causes this: (http://drzaius.ics.uci.edu/blogs/setbang/raiders_of_the_lost_ark_2.gif)

TL;DR, if they don't take a step backward along the path they've taken, like how daggerfall was bleak but infinite, I will be severely disappointed. Probably going to lose all interest in TES forever. Morrowind for life!

Did some Battlefield 3 today and got really far into my Hard difficulty playthrough.  I went from one of the early checkpoints in Operation Guillotine to the sewers in Lights Out.  Not really looking forward to the last part of the level, or any of the second one where you play Dima.  The other two levels shouldn't be a problem though.

Not sure if tonight I'll continue it or switch back to multiplayer and continue progressing the classes.  Got my first service star yesterday in the RPK and also got my first medal, the one for getting the resupply ribbon 50 times.

I want to get 100% of trophies on BF3 (Achievments to XBOX players). But, because I like to keep my HARD only streak, I am trying to do "The Profesional" right now. Complete the street chase in 2:30 without dying? On HARD? I am insane.

Any PS3 users add me, please. My name is PaperHats.
Title: Re: What did you play today?

Its not necessarily that hard, its just a case of knowing where to go to avoid being hit a lot.  Generally I say once you're outside stick to the left and try to keep as few enemies in direct view of you as possible and its not a problem.  During my hard playthrough of that level yesterday I only died once in that chase sequence (at least the portion of it that counts for the achievement/trophy, since it is only up to the incident with Vladimir and the RPG you need to do in under 2:30 mins without dying).  Having said that, I picked up that achievement this morning on easy difficulty.  All I need now is to do the jet level in a perfect run (always one missile that gets deflected by flares!) and I'll have completed the BF3 campaign achievements.  Drake should help me with co-op and from then its just a case of grinding the multiplayer until I eventually get the rest of them.

Today, I played Stellar Impact (http://stellar-impact.com/stellar_impact/) for the first time and actually quite enjoyed it.  It does rely heavily on good teamwork and clever maneouvring, and having lots of upgrades on your ship doesn't hurt, but its still a great game.  Just a shame there is a very small player base right now which makes it hard to get a game.  I've been playing the Cruiser class which I seem to be OK with, but I may have to try out something smaller like a Frigate or Destroyer as my last game showed me the advantage of speed in space naval combat.

Ah, I did it today. I just threw all three grenades and then picked off the rest with the UMP-45 I picked up.

But the "You Can Be My Wingman Anytime" is impossible for me. I didn't get hit once by anything, and I STILL didn't get it.

I even managed "What the hell *are* you?" on HARD, but not the Going Hunting one? Is it a glitch or something?

You also have to never miss with a missile. Each flair pop is scripted, so you just have to time it.

I have the same issue. I have done it on normal and easy, and neither time the achievement popped.

Title: Re: What did you play today?
Post by: Drake Vhett on November 13, 2011, 05:19:35 PM
There is no "last flare pop". Each enemy plane pops flares at irregular intervals until you shoot it. You have to time each of the 7-8 missiles in between the pops, and not get hit once.

EDIT:

Okay, a simple, guide to when to fire.

Plane 1: Fire your missile the moments before you get straifed by a second plane heading toward you. He pops flares a few times before and your plane does a barrel roll, then you'll fly straight for a bit. That's when you fire.

Plane 2: As soon as you get a lock on.

Plane 3: He'll pop flares once, fire once you pass them. If you fire before your plane clears the flare pops, you'll miss.

Plane 4: As soon as you lock on.

Plane 5: After the second flare pop. It may look like you can do it after the first pop, but the second is much safer.

Plane 6: After the second flare pop. He'll pop once and go into tight turns. By the time you pass his flares he'll straghten out and blow him away.

As you go into the ground targeter you'll get the achievement. This was done on Hard difficulty(which doesn't effect the Going Hunting mission at all) after an hour's worth of attempts.

Today I've decided to start getting back into Lord of the Rings Online, again.  Just hit level 42 and should be 43 by the weekend if I do enough quests.  I've just left Angmar where I'll be doing all of my side-quests for the time being to return to the Misty Mountains to continue Book 5 of the story quests.  Going to need to get some buffs though for my character as I just failed to complete it with about 108 XP left to take out of the enemy I have to kill.

So, if anyone wants to get into LotRO then now would be a good time.  Look for me (Hallarandir) on the Snowbourn server and I'll see what I can do to help you out.  Be advised though that its actually quite expensive in terms of in-game gold to stay too long helping newbies as I'm spending lots on maintaining equipment whilst earning nothing to cover it (lost about 1 gold last time I helped out my friend, which is a lot of money).

I returned Skyrim to Redbox today, and I felt like I was abandoning my child. I'm going to try and get it, but when I do, I'll probably make a new character. To be honest, I tend to make the ugliest characters first time through, and I played through most of the first city, and have yet to find a face-covering helm I like.

Besides that, I finally finished AC:Revelations, 100%. I was waiting around in Constantinopli waiting to get bank investments and Assassin's contracts finished to buy the last 4 books and 2 buildings I needed to finish everything 100%, except the main stoyline of course. Just the four books cost me about 200,000 acke. To put that in perspective, every 20 minutes I automatically made 45,000 acke from the restoration of Constantinopli, which was at 96%. After doing that, I finished the main story, which had my favorite ending so far, at the very least for Ezio. Altair's ending was fitting for his life, and the plot hang left is making me want AC3 badly.

I finished Mass Effect 2 today, with all my teammates surviving. I didn't do a romance, though, so I'll have to do that in a couple months when I do my next playthrough. I'm considering forking out the $10 for 'Lair of the Shadow Broker' DLC, cause I want the achievements and have heard its an amazing add on. We'll see.

Now, having finally gotten that done, I am free to return to my other games that need some TLC. Played Combat Evolved Anniversary, and then Battlefield 3.

I'll tell you now, the last two sequences are the best in the entire series.

Best compliment I ever gave was probably for Mass Effect 2, then Dragon Age: Origins, but AC:R is my third top game, just for the Galata mission and the last two sequences. I went through three games with Ezio, all 100%, and another with Altair. I've got a real connection with these characters.

Yeah I figured Mass Effect 2 would be at the top, having just finished it, I'd have to agree. It is unbelievably good. I knew exactly what was going to happen, having played it before, and it still blew me away at every moment.

Also, same here with the character connection comment. My XBL account does not have AC1 or 2 on it, because I did not have an Xbox at the time I played them (I beat both of those at my Uncle's house), but I feel the same way having played through all three stories. I'm now dying to play Revelations.

Thanks bro, make the wait until Christmas even worse :P

Altair's ending was not the one I expected.  After reading "The Secret Crusade", which is the only good Assassin's Creed novel to date, I was expecting the exact opposite on the "Bloody - Peaceful" spectrum.  But it was definitely satisfying, and left me more then a little teary-eyed.
It was his final goodbye with Darim, then his memory flash-backs to Maria that I think really got me. What he thought back on in his final moments...
Ezio's ending in the game was just beautiful.  I totally agree that it was the best ending of the series.

I'm two Memory Sequences away from completing Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

And I'm too scared to finish. I dont want to, its gone by so fast. : ( I don't want to see Ezio go . . .

Do it.  Honestly, bite the bullet and finish.  It's going to suck when it's over, but it'll leave you stunned, amazed, and deeply satisfied.  I promise.  There's so much to the end that's mind-blowing and depressing and inspiring and heartwarming...and all kinds of emotionally awesome.

Dude, I almost started crying while watching the Embers animated film. It's post-AC:R, and tough to get through. You can get in on XBL or if you got the signature edition.

I'll tell you now, the last two sequences are the best in the entire series.
I cried.  Not even gonna lie.  There were two waterfalls going down my face.  I cried at the end of Revelations, too, just from the sheer amount of rapid-fire emotional pile-up going on there.  But Embers was...really cool, awesomely badass, but totally heartbreaking.  And I cried.

That game moved the cold lump inside my chest some might mistake for a soul. The gameplay of the hookblade and Ezio's new, if extreme, execution kills are awe-inspiring. Also, the Galata secret location is one of the most amazing levels I have ever seen.

Yes to all of the above.  An emphatic repeating yes.  And a "Oh yeah, same here" too.

I hate you so much right now. That may be the best compliment I've ever seen you give a game...If not, then it's in the top five...
Worth every word, I kid you not.

I went through three games with Ezio, all 100%, and another with Altair. I've got a real connection with these characters.
Same here.  Truth be told, I was attached as hell to Ezio.  Altair too, but only slightly less then Ezio.  AC3 is gonna really have its work cut out for it if it tries to introduce a new ancestor character.
Considering they story with the Bleeding Effect, I wonder if AC3 will be longer? Since to safely do it Desmond would have to relive their entire life? I hope they don't throw the ancesor part out and only focus on Desmond. I thought he was a jerk for saying no to 16 when he asked to come along with Desmond. After all the guy did for him, I would have given him the chance in a heartbeat.
Can anyone explain to my why Desmond looks so different? It's kinda late to make that big of a change after three games of him looking the same way, isn't it?
I don't know how I feel about that.  One the one hand, I felt bad as hell for 16.  Especially the end where Desmond sort of turns on him and accuses 16 of destroying the island, when 16 was pretty much letting himself die to save him.  Points to 16's voice actor for making him feel sane, but just on the edge of snapping and going back to the crazy person, like he's really trying to keep control of himself for Desmond's sake.
But you have to think, how is that even going to work with 16 and Desmond in the same body?
Can anyone explain to my why Desmond looks so different? It's kinda late to make that big of a change after three games of him looking the same way, isn't it?
I think most of Desmond looking different is the change in the game engine.  The clothes are the result of his mind being in the Black Room.  But if I remember right, the beard was originally going to be a mental thing from him being too closely tied to Ezio, and as he learned to separate himself, it would go away.  Apparently that didn't happen, and now it's the same thing that happened to Ezio: he was out cold for a while, nobody shaved him, woke up with a beard. lolz

Last night I played some DiRT 2 and found myself once again using what I call the 'win car' to try and get a good place in the current tournament.  This 'win car' I'm referring to is the Dallenbach special, a purpose-build single-seat off-road race car that is ridiculously fast.  In the last tournament I had to set a fast time on a certain track, and I did a pretty decent time in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, however on my first attempt with the Dallenbach, a car I hardly ever use (compared to the Evo X which I use a lot) I cut 16 seconds off my course time.

As it happens, with this contest its all about the longest jump so I switched from rally cars to raid cars (selecting a course which had a team event and getting invited to pair up with Tanner Foust in the process) which let me get a decent distance jumping me up (no pun intended) over 1,000 places in the contest (although I'm still outside the top 10% so I'll only get 250 online fame points for it right now).

Its really making me want to get DiRT 3 now as there is no Dallenbach (from what I've read online) and snow stages make a return, which were always my favourite in Colin McRae rally 4.  Plus the Gymkhana stuff that Ken Block (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs-jAImScms) helped put in the game looks really interesting.

I went through the attachments on my guns in Battlefield 3 and I hadn't noticed that I had unlocked the Holographic (HOLD) sight for my M16A4. I swapped my ACOG for it, and it is frikkin awesome! I used the foregrip to keep it steady, and have a laser for hip firing, so I got 20+ kills easy on Operation Metro. Then I got hit by an SVD, had 10% health, one clip, and was being supressed. The holographic sight is definitely my favourite.  ACOG is definitely better for mid-range engagements due to its zoom but I personally don't find myself engaging enemies much at optimum range for it, and so the holographic scope makes much more sense.  I know their are a few sights with no zoom, but the holographic is my favourite as the reticule seems much better to me then the red-dot sights.  Bot sure why that is, exactly, but it just does.

IRNV is the best though in Operation Métro's tunnels as it just highlights enemies better then anything else.

Got a strange l'etranger on fortress.
I have a bad habit of letting people take me for a ride in a trade.

Also broke my highest score record, with a score of 35 in one life as a demoman of all things.
Demoman takes skill.
And an insane surge of luck.

I use the IRNV on the far right tunnel (Second M-COM base). Other than that, M16A4 Holographic all the way.

I don't think I'll ever finish all the kits. I like my M16A4 too much!

I have learnt that, on the Advanced Dog Tag (Assault, LMG, Carbine etc...) for BF3, the amount of kills you have with them certain guns goes up. I didn't expect that.

So, more M16A4, but this time I tried the ACOG again. It didn't go well, so I switched back to my Holographic.

All advanced dogtags with numbers on go up.  I have the resupply one and it shows how many bullets I've supplied to others (last count 555 IIRC).

Last night I played with Drake in Battlefield 3 and got all but the Drop Em Like Liquid co-op mission achievements (still need the co-op weapons one too).  We also did pretty well in multiplayer.  I'm now rank 16 (I haven't played much recently) and got the PKP for Support and the M4 for Engineer.

Don't worry, Flyboy. I am only Level 20.

Hey, does anyone know how to get the motion sensor ribbon? I use the motion sensor but all I get is spot bonuses.

I was just reading about that on Achievement Hunter.  Apparently its for spots with the MAV, rather then the T-UGS.

It's easy to get the ribbons with the MAV once you get it, though. I can rack up 4 or 5 using it for 10 minutes of a match.

Oh. The MAV. I unlock that next. But why does it say motion sensor in the description for the T-UGS when you need the MAV to get a motion sensor ribbon? They could have made it clearer.

Borrowed "Turok" from a friend today.  Played some...not sure if I like it or not yet.  Had some trouble with the controls, but the dinosaurs are pretty cool.  Like those have anything to do with each other... lolz

Then I played some more AC: Revelation.  Did some exploring in Cappadoccia, and replayed a few other of the more awesome missions.

Well that I agree with.  It did feel shorter.  I wasn't sure if it was shorter, or if I'd just powered through it at first, but...yeah, I would've been happier with a little more length and a few extra side missions.  The city events were a nice idea, except they totally didn't kick in like they were supposed to, and I missed stuff like assassination contracts and courtesan/thief missions.  But considering that you were supposed to be in a race for the keys and on the clock for once, I can sort of accept that Ezio's mission was a little more linear.

The UMP45 is now my weapon of choice.  Its got full range of firing modes and as a general unlock means I get to use it with every class.  I did so well with it when I first used it I got 25 kills in one game, and that was with nothing unlocked for it!  Can't wait to see what I can do with holographic scope. Should keep me going until the Back to Karkand weapons (SA80 and MG-36 can't wait!).

I just unlocked this last night, haven't had the chance to use it yet. I may actually use a Light Machine gun for once, instead of the UMP45.

I played some BF3 last night and, as I thought, I rocked with the UMP45.  On Seine Crossing my team ware defending and in the last area, inside the building, the enemies had a squad that was harassing our guys and were close to pushing us back.  Spotting one of them running behind some filing cabinets I sprinted over behind them and out-flanked what I thought was just one guy, but turned out to be 3 of them, and I got all 3 with the UMP without them noticing me.  I think I then got down another guy in a doorway before someone else finally got me.  Happily my team won that round, which was extra satisfying as in the very first area the enemy team was down to 0 tickets, but because they had armed the last objective they didn't lose and unfortunately they got it and so progressed to the next area.

Then, in the match afterwards on Tehran Highway we were attacking their base and I managed to steal one of their tanks, and lasted quite a while with it.  The next round on the same map (where strangely I was attacking again)  I went sniper and managed to get a fair few kills, as well as taking out a few wannabe spawn-killers and an enemy radio beacon.

I did pretty well unlock-wise, got the Holo scope and falshlight for the UMP45, and the M320 for the Assault class, as well as suppression specialisation for levelling up.

Today on BF3, I destroyed my server with my M16A4. I joined in on Operation Metro, on the second set of M-COMs, and I had a K/D at the end of the round of 40/1, I armed and destroyed 4 M-COMs, and my squad was actually working as a team. I was happy.  :D

But then I was put back down when on Kharg Island, and enemy Frogfoot was spawn-killing us with unguided missiles. We lost after the first set was taken, and none of us played well.

I have grown fustrated with Battlefield 3 because I am now being kicked every time I have a good game, so I put Gran Turismo 5 back into my PS3 and did all the updates (We bought a new PS3 a few weeks ago because our old ones laser died). It's stupid because I will be getting a PS3 of my own for my room in 14 days (Christmas time) but I miss it so much. I'll do the updates again on Christmas. BF3 is good, but GT5 is something I will never let go.

I have just installed Spec 2.0 (The biggesr single update for any game. Ever) and now need to do V2.01, which fixes a few problems on the new tracks and the free cars, and of course not being able to save custom tracks on Course Maker. Then I can re-download my DLC that I bought before my old PS3 died. Which included 15 cars, 100 paint colours, exclusive racing suits and helmets, and three new tracks with reverse capabilities.

This is my third GT5 profile, and in 14 days I will start my fourth. And yet... I still play on it. Why?

Had a beautiful moment in TF2, wherein i found the enemy's teleporter exit. I stood crouched behind-beside it, and backstabbed every poor soul to come through. Eventually someone took another run at it, and knew I was there, turning too fast and trying to melee me-- at that moment one of my allies showed up and helped me finish them-- trying to kill someone with the knife without backstab is suicide-- i then crouched back down and got 2 more telestabs, but my ally didnt see the value in this and destrtoyed the teleporter, right as an enemy soldier came barreling in the door.
His rockets decimated my ally, then he turned to look at me, currently disguised as the last player i stabbed-- the engineer that built the teleporter. He sees me with half health crouched next to a freshly destroyed teleporter, stares for a moment, then turns and starts to leave. Backstab!

Been playing a lot of Battlefield 3 this afternoon.  Got most of the way through level 20 now (2 more games and I reckon I'll rank up) and got my third weapon service star, this time in the M27 IAR.  Also got tons of kills with the UMP 45 (and got the last of the unlocks for it) so I'm 18 kills away now from service star 2 with that, and I noticed 8 more resupply ribbons and I'll get a second Resupply medal.

I loved what I have managed to achieve since installing Spec 2 for GT5. I level up from 0 to 10 in an hour, golded the hardest online event, and managed to tune the free car to driving perfection. But then I did something stupid...

I went on Battlefield 3. I was going to have one last attempt to earn the MAV. I got so fustrated with my crappy sniper rifles, I started using the amazing UMP45. Bad idea, because everyone was sniping. I got murdered every time I moved. So I quit. I quit BF3 for a while.

Played a skirmish game in Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun (Firestorm expansion) as GDI and had a pretty good time just crushing each of the 2 AI opponents.  For most of the game I let them fight each other while I worked on building up a massive wall around my base (and the subsequent Tiberium gathering expansion base I built when the fields by my main one got low) before strengthening my forces (with mostly walkers, such as the Mammoth, Titan, Wolverine and, of course, Juggernaut).

Best part though has to be when first starting it, as I had to re-install it (as well as everything else in the First Decade pack I have) which meant I had to go through the initial video that plays the first time you run it, and heard those 3 precious words at the end that every CnC fan gets a burst of happiness from hearing: Welcome back, Commander.  Even typing those words make me happy!  :D

I greatly loved that game as well.  I was even head of a GDI clan back in the day!  My brother Ty did our webpage. We were the Red Storm Guard.  My 'signature maneuver' was my airmobile armoured assault.   I'd build up about 30or so Titan walkers, and  about 15 carry-alls, then I'd group them to hot keys. I'd have to manually attach each carry-all to its load, but once done, a single click would select them all.  I'd get them airborne and send them on a mission toward the enemy base, while in transit I could hot-key my bombers that would be in an automated looping aerial patrol until summoned...get them to tie up the air-defences and soften up the target, just as they were completing, my titans would land and I'd give them their targets, while sending back the carry-alls for the next wave.

I'd have to leave the Titans to their own devices momentarily to set up the next load, but when i needed them, they would then be only 1 click away to exploit any successes of the first wave....

*sigh*  Good times.    I just had to fend off the rushers long enough to get all that together.   Which was hard, because rushers...rush.  And often when their first couple rush attempts failed...they would just quit.

Title: Re: What did you play today?
Post by: flyboy424 on December 19, 2011, 05:35:05 PM
I don't get the appeal of rushing either.  The whole fun of games like this is to play around with the units and strategies until you find something that works for you and then try to apply it whilst also adjusting to defend other players' strategies.  I haven't found my ideal strategy yet, but generally it involves lots of high-tech tanks mixed with some anti-infantry vehicles in a large assault against the enemy base.  I expect from my skirmish yesterday that the Juggernaut from the Firestorm expansion will be pat of whatever strategy I choose to implement, as they are awesome.

I may have to take you up on your challenge, Eparavu, some time.  I'm sure we could get others involved too what with the release of Tiberian Sun (along with the original CnC and Red Alert) for free.

Now, as for what I'veplayed today, I did some CnC 3: Kane's Wrath this morning and this afternoon I played the Anno 2017 demo, which was pretty good, and the Anno 1404 demo which I absolutely loved (and so have ordered a copy of the game).

That would be fantastic. I used to play tibsun and RA2 for hours. starting with yuri's revenge the entire series saw a rapid decline, though.
As for rushers, the worst kind was ENGINEER rushing. Get two power plants up and suddenly there is a swarm of dudes in yellow selling your base from underneath you. But about the juggernauts-- they may seem pretty awesome, but all my experience tells me that nod artillery are better.

I got Anno 1404 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anno_1404) Gold edition yesterday and haven't played anything else since.  I've not touched the campaign yet, instead I went straight for a continuous game and have done pretty well so far (I think I've played for around 16 hours over the course of yesterday and today).  My population is above 14,000, my Gold has fluctuated wildly going from 0 to as high as 100,000 for a couple of hours.  I also have 8 settlements right now, although only 4 of them are actually populated (the rest are purely production settlements).  Of those 3 are Occulant and the other is Orient (which is my largest single settlement).  Even with such a high population count there are enough production buildings for my general income (income from tax on settlers minus cost for maintaining buildings and ships) to be in negative figures for a lot of the game (getting as low as -1500 gold), however all the trade routes I have set-up selling surplus goods have kept me going and my total gold count (usually) above 0.

I am quite amazed I hadn't come across the Anno series before as its exactly the type of game I love, and as its published by Ubisoft its got the backing to be a fantastic quality game (although there were a few major glitches I did see yesterday, but as I haven't seen any of them today today I think it was just because it was unpatched).

GDI is pretty broken in the right hands. Stud your walls with sentry towers, make 2 layers of firestorm wall and they will never touch you-- plus GDI can stop a nod missile, but their orbital strike is an instant wrench in the gears. I enjoyed Nod more, but there is no doubt they were harder to use. Funny as osik to mutant highjacker the mammoth :p

Also, medics. :/

One of my biggest annoyances were Nod's alien-tech banshee fighters...  Many players would send them in a swarm as soon as they knew your firestorm was down due to low power or over-use.

Until I figured out a cheap and easy way to beat them.  You just sprinkle a few little sections of firestorm-generating wall throughout your complex.  So the little bits are actually mostly hidden behind the graphics of the buildings.  The parts that are seen look like you just ran out of money or time or both.

The banshees will come, hoping to catch you before you finish your protection.  When they come in on their strike run, you flick on the firestorm.

Now if you did that with a full or obvious wall, the nod player may be able to abort the attack...but he may not even notice the little bits of wall here and there...

The control of the banshees is not very precise...once you click a target they will swoop and wheel on their own.  Chances are they WILL run into one of the small invisible sections of firestorm wall and be destroyed.

Soooo satisfying to hear their little 'whoops'-like comment and see them come tumbling down.

Today my sister got a Wii (the limited edition blue one) in a bundle with Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics (she also bought EA Sports Active 2 to go with it).  I tried out a few events and did quite well in the canoeing and shooting.

I was hoping to be playing Portal 2 today, but it still hasn't arrived yet after it got dispatched on Tuesday.

Today I played DiRT 3 and Portal 2.  In the third season of DiRT 3 right now and just unlocked the Rally World Tournament (I think that's what its called).  Portal 2 I just did various levels of in order to get missing SP achievements.  All I need now are the co-op ones.

I enjoyed Fable III.  It wasn't the most amazing game I've ever played, but I definitely enjoyed it.  The story really swooped me along, the You-Know-What for people who played was legit nightmare fuel of the kind I was not expecting, and all the decisions at the end were especially satisfying.

Yeah, I thought the MP demo was quite good as well.  Very similar to CoD, but the addition of the whole cash system where you can buy extras in-game was quite a good idea IMO.

That one is different.  The version for the Wii is a straight-up remake of the original. The version Drake played on the Xbox is more a re-imagining with new levels and the use of Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Actually the one I played wasn't exactly a full remake and it had Daniel Craig in it as Bond. Trust me there were levels I don't remember being in the original even putting a new skin on them.

So today I finally completed Mass Effect 2 on Insanity, leaving one DLC achievement left until I have that game 100% completed.  I played as an Engineer, which is the least popular class and not everyone's first choice for an Insanity playthrough, but it got me through OK.  It also made for some memorable moments, like this one I posted on Facebook earlier:

So, in my Insanity playthrough of Mass Effect 2 I am on Legion's loyalty mission with Tali as the 3rd squad member and in one of the corridors I managed to get a Geth to low health before having to switch focus to its friend. This gave it time to boost its shields, so Scorch (my attack drone) and Chiktikka (Tali's explosive drone) both came out and double-teamed this Geth who had cornered himself. Me, Tali and Legion stood in cover immobile while the drones worked together to whittle down the shields before Chiktikka kept the Geth from being able to attack and Scorch finished off what little health remained. This, and Scorch keeping the Husks occupied on the Reaper IFF mission, is why I love playing Engineer class.

Finished Mass Effect 3 SP today.  Answered a lot of questions about the background story, and overall I didn't think it was as bad as everyone says it is however it certainly could be a lot better.

Also did a load of MP matches with Mereel and Dha'Ward afterwards.  Tried out Krogan Soldier for a bit but decided the constantly running in for melee kills wasn't really for me.  Then contradicted that a couple of games later by getting 8 grabs in one game with my lvl 18 Human Male Engineer.

Yesterday in TF2 I strafed around 2 liberty launcher rockets, (only hold 3, they fly FAST) then jumped over one as medic as I charged down the soldier responsible. He got halfway through his respawn room barrier reloading, as I yell YOU'RE ALL OUT and bonesaw crit him in the face. How to train your dragon quote made it all the more epic... then a common Valve error broke the replay. Legend lost.

Got Ace Combat Assault Horizon today and wow is that game bad.  I thought since AC6 was pretty decent and they had a story written by a western author it would be a good game (even after playing the demo and being horrified at the helicopter segment) but I was so wrong.  The combat has been made so hard in order to encourage you to use the DFM (DogFight Mode) which basically has the game take control of your aircraft while you fire your weapons at the enemy aircraft you're chasing and makes the combat more cinematic.  The only problem is that as your allies are useless you're constantly getting fired at with missiles and while you do have flares now they don't seem to work and as such you have to keep disengaging from DFM to play the missile dodge mini-game which involves you throttling back, performing a counter-manoeuvre and then destroying the enemy with a quick missile.

The worst though are the controls.  The jets are barely tolerable with a joystick, but the other missions I have to switch to a standard controller for as they are completely unplayable with a joystick.  Its never a good sign when you have to switch controller type in a game.

The story too isn't all that great.  While it is better then games like Battlefield 3 as I have found myself getting attached to the characters slightly, there have still been numerous moments where I've thought to myself "this is Call of Duty 4 now".

The only great thing I can find about the game is the soundtrack, especially the new theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YuHo5vI4YM).  I guess the fact there is story co-op is good too, however I've not tried it yet and probably won't get a chance to now.

Played a bit more AC:AH last night and my view on the game had changed slightly.  The story is actually starting to get quite good, and the characters are well written IMO.

The last 3 missions as well have generally been quite good, with the first featuring a cutscene where you refuel hot while enemy aircraft attack the airbase, the second had you strafing various naval vessels and the third starts you off weaving a B-1B or B-2 (depending on your choice) around enemy radar.

Played a little bit of Battlefield 3 today as Dice just released the Rent-a-server patch on Xbox 360.  Its great they've given console players the ability to rent servers and set them up how they want, but IMHO a lot of the implementation is bad.  I may do a write-up in the BF3 thread fully explaining my experiences, but for now I'll just say that I think they've completely ruined the multiplayer and pretty much put me off getting back into it any time soon.

Been getting back into Age of Empires: Online today.  Decided since the Celts are now available as a faction I'd start a new game with them (I used the Greeks before as when the game launched it was them or the Egyptians).  So far I'm really liking them.  Not really much different from the Greeks at I think all factions have the same bas stuff (and I'm only level 4 with Celts are the moment) but the style of the buildings and characters I prefer with the Celts.  I'm even tempted to pay the 800 MS Points (its a Games for Windows - LIVE game) to get the premium Celt faction pack.

I just finished playing the demo of a game called Analogue: A Hate Story.  Its essential a text adventure game (although a very graphical one, as it happens) where you find out what happened to an old Korean deep-space exploration ship called Mugunghwa which was lost for centuries.  The story was very deep and pretty interesting, and while the thought of reading a lot was a bit worrying for me it actually turned out not to be too bad.

From what i have heard yes. Its mainly economy managing and very little ship flying or fighting.

Minecraft and then some Reach was it today.

I've got a friend who used to play EVE.  It does have some good stuff, like the fact that the higher level upgrades will take days (real-time) to research.  However, I was put off it completely when I saw the flying is pretty much point-and-click.  I'd prefer something like the X-series (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9KPBveavHA) where you can control our ship directly (either through mouse, keyboard or joystick) or have the option go point-and-click if you'd prefer.

Played TF2, enjoyed being utterly useless in Freak Fortress-- like boss mode. I hid with a friend, then we blew ourselves up when the boss found us.

I have yet to upgrade. i've had my current box since '06 and i only recently had to crack the thing open to clean out dust that was causing it to over heat.

Still playing Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Loving the custom weapons to death. I usually go with what they suggest each mission and then add either my MP7 or the Goblin M4. Love the cloak too.

Wow what an anticlimactic ending to an other wise pretty damn good single player.

Also, thanks for the offer for help Drake. I would have taken you up on it its just that one of my cats chewed through the cable that connects my turtle beach headset to my controller to talk. That and my other standard 360 headset is old and broken. I hope to have a replacement cable soon to talk.

I felt like the ending was intended to be anticlimactic. Ultimately the end was just them getting revenge, and now they get to go on the next mission. There isn't really a end to what the Ghosts do, so there is no way to adequately end the game.

Today I got Jet Set Radio on Xbox Live Arcade as Sega released the HD version of the Dreamcast original today (no idea why they didn't release it yesterday as is customary on XBLA).  For 800 MS Points ($10) its a great deal, especially as they have a short documentary included about the making of the game and some of the songs from the sequel, Jet Set Radio Future (which I love to bits).

Gameplay wise its much more different from JSRF then I was expecting, but it is still good fun.  Some elements are a little confusing, like tagging other players doesn't make sense as when you get close the tag icon sometimes comes up and sometimes doesn't.  I'm also not a fan of the fact you can't do tricks to gain speed while grinding like in JSRF, so learning how to manage momentum looks to be a big part of really getting to grips with the game.

I've been playing some Halo: Reach again lately, and last night I had two awesome rounds right before I went to bed. The first one I went 20 for 2, and the second one I went 21 for 0.

Oh how I love hearing that 'Perfection!' medal at the end of a round :D

Since getting it in the Humble THQ Bundle (http://www.humblebundle.com/), I've been playing a lot of Saints Row the Third.  I had a slight interest in it before, but not enough to get it on Xbox 360, and now I'm glad I got it on PC as not only did I really enjoy it but I was able to play at 1080p resolution as opposed to the 720p consoles have, which made everything look that little bit better. And best of all, it has full Xbox 360 controller support in so I got PC graphics with console controls, which is definitely the better way for me (I know mouse and keyboard is more accurate and responsive, but I have too little experience with them compared to controllers to effectively use them).

Still, I finished the story today so with the exception of dipping back in to muck around a bit more and finish getting the collectables, I'll most likely start on the next game I'm interested in from the bundle, Metro 2033, which also has full controller support built-in (from what I've read online, at least).  If more of the games I'm interested in have controller support (at least, the ones it makes sense for.  Not keen on playing Rome II: Total War with one) then PC may be the platform I stick to until the next generation of consoles finally come.

Well, the Steam holiday sale is in full force and already my wallet's taken a hit.  Sim City 4, Psychonauts, Dawn of War franchise and Darksiders franchise, along with Saints Row: The Third DLC Season Pass are all now in my steam library, and its only day 4 of the sale.  At the moment I'm mainly between Darksiders, Saints Row: The Third and Dawn of War II: Retribution, so if you want to play anything with me right now those are your best bets (and the complete packs for all 3 are still discounted to 75% each or something).  I'm quite anxious to see how the Tau Commander plays in DoW II: Retribution Last Stand mode.

Also, my Xbox 360 has decided it doesn't like my router all of a sudden and won't connect over WiFi without me resetting the router repeatedly, so don't expect to see me on XBL in the near future.

Finally got around to playing Black Mesa today.  Got  most of the way through before the game crashed.   I was pretty impressed by it, considering its a community mod and its released for free.  I was also pleased to find that its controller compatible, although the buttons aren't reconfigurable and the default layout they provide isn't the best (but still perfectly playable).

I also started replaying Half-Life 2 yesterday.  Its been long enough since I last played it that I remember the major sections of the game and the general order of sequences, but I don't remember how some of the puzzles are solved so I end up having to re-work them out again.  I'll probably continue it once I've finished Black Mesa (or at least what they've released so far).

Star Wars Rebel Assault.  I know, its 20 years old this year, and only runs in DosBox, and if released today it'd probably only be a flash game on the Star wars website rather then the full retail release it was originally, and it completely breaks with canon with its story, but its still a pretty fun game.  Got further today when playing it then I ever have before by finishing off all the Hoth stuff and making it to Yavin (yeah, it really breaks canon).

Y'all are still around, huh? Nice to see that some people still have dedication, heh.  :yummy:

Figured if I'm going to poke my head back in after years of being inactive, I might as well say what I've been up to lately. I got back into SW:TOR after abandoning it for a few months... I guess I got a little bit nostalgic for the good ol' days of immersion and roleplaying.

Way, WAY to much S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. It's really shabla good. Even unmodded it's better than a lot of new games, and this was made in 2004 and vaporware until 2007
