Forum Feedback / Re: this forum is dead
« on: November 23, 2018, 02:03:31 PM »
Why would bots want to target a dead forum like this? What do they hope to gain from it?

The petition still seems to be going strong. As of now it has passed the 200,000 signature milestone. Over the past few weeks and months it has gotten the attention of a lot of websites who after mentioning it have in turn caused massive influxes of new signatures over short periods of time.

From what I can tell by checking the petition almost everyday, it seems to be growing at a rate of about 100 signatures per day. That seems like a pretty good sign.

With all this new Star Wars stuff that has come out from Disney and Lucasfilm, it looks as though we might only be getting content focused on the Original Trilogy era, and we might never see any Old Republic era stuff get explored. Well now there seems to be a light of hope. There is a petition that has been going around for Disney to create a Netflix series based on the Old Republic era of Legends. This petition has gotten a lot of support in a  short amount of time, and quickly has reached over 100,000 signatures, and has even gotten the attention of some news websites.

I think it might be a good idea for us to sign this petition and spread the word to those that we know who might be interested. Even if petitions rarely ever accomplish much, it wouldn't hurt for us to try, because it might still get Disney's attention and show them that there is at least an interest in the Old Republic era, and that there would be an audience for that type of content if they ever decide to make any. I already signed the petition. How about you guys?

Here is a link to the petition:

Just a quick question. Is it me, or does the spoiler tag function on this forum seem to missing from the area around the box where you create your posts? It seems to have disappeared recently, even before the forum layout was upgraded. Was that function removed by mistake, or is this a known problem? There are some spoilery things I want to discuss, and I want to be able to put them in a spoiler tag, but can't do so, and I don't know ho to make them if there is another way to do it.

I want to discuss this certain character that has been reintroduced, but I can't figure out how to make spoiler tags in the new layout. Anyone know how to do that, or if it can be done at all? The spoiler tag function seems to have disappeared.

The trailer for Season 3 has been released, and let me tell you, it really was something. Let's just say that a certain fan favorite character from the old Legends expanded universe has been brought back into the canon, and they got them right too. See for yourselves. The frat two episode have also premiered, and it was a really strong start.

Haha, it's possible!  I've used this name for years, mostly in a Halo setting but I used to frequent Roosterteeth and quite a bit.

I remember now. That's where I've seen you before. I think I've also seen your name before on I've even read some of your stories there, like the Republic Commando/Halo Crossover one.

Yep, it's been pretty quiet around here. I tried to revive some activity by posting in a few of the threads. I drop in almost everyday to see if anything new has been posted. I'm glad someone else has decided to drop in as well.

By the way, haven't I seen you're name somewhere before on the internet?

I wonder if Fenn Rau and Fenn Shysa are related? Some groups of Mandalorians might have different naming rules, kind of like how in Japanese the last name is said first, so then Fenn could actually be a last name perhaps? Clans and family seem to be very important to Mandalorians, so it makes sense that they would want people to know their clan name first. Maybe in their own language, they would say their last names first, but when translated into Basic, it is reversed?

Another little nuance I've noticed with the Clone Wars and Rebels is that even though each Mandalorian forges their own armor and customizes it, each clan and group seems to have a similar color scheme and pattern, like how all the Death Watch members had roughly the same color patterns, or how all of Fenn Rau's Protectors had the same colors on their armor. Even though most customize them, there does seem to be some degree of regulation in what colors they put on their armor.

On another note, I have a theory on who Sabine's mother might be. Dave Filoni had said that he's very certain that Sabine's mother was one of the Death Watch members in the throne room when Darth Maul killed Pre Visla. I believe that she is Rook Kast, Pre Visla's second in command. She does kind of look like Sabine, especially in the Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic. I wonder if she is by any chance related to Jodo Kast, a Mandalorian from one of the old Marvel comics that at one point impersonated Boba Fett (which Fett did not take to kindly to). So her last name is actually Kast and not Visla. That would make her of clan Kast. So it seems that the clan represents a Mandaloran's family and blood ties, while their House represents their loyalties and allegiances.

Does anyone remember Shae Vizla from The Old Republic video game trailers? A lot of people think that she was Pre Visla's ancestor, because Pre Visla said that his ancestors stole the darksaber from the Jedi Temple, and Shae just so happens to be a Mandalorian named Vizla that participated in an attack on the Jedi Temple in the days of the Old Republic. She could have been the one that stole the darksaber. The main reason I've seen why some people don't want to support this theory is because her last name Vizla is spelled differently from Visla, which honestly, I don't see why this would be considered an issue. This was likely just a mistake, though a possible in universe reason I can think of that would explain this difference is that since Shae Vizla and Pre Visla lived about 3000 years apart from each other, in that time, the spelling of their last name could have changed. In real life, the spellings of last names often change over time, so I don't see why the same can't be true in Star Wars. I think that adds an element of realism to it.

Does it cost a lot to keep it up?

I'm really interested in seeing what the situation is on Mandalore. Many people were kind put off by the whole New Mandalorian thing in the Clone Wars, and thought that the Mandalorians were really out of character, but that was actually only going to be a temporary thing. According to Dave Filoni, near the end of the Clone Wars, there would have been an arc where the Mandalorians of Mandalore would actually end up transitioning back into a warlike nation, and they would take up their old ways again.

I wonder if they'll be closer to how they were in the old canon now, and if maybe there's an actual Mandalore leading them now. Bo Katen could be the current Mandalore now. If that turned out to be true, it would be somewhat of a callback to Karen Traviss final book in the Republic Commando series called Imperial Commando, where during the time between Episode 3 and 4, there was apparently a female Mandalore in charge of the Mandalorians.

This might be a bit late, but in one of those after show episode things called Rebels Recon (something that the creative team always puts out after each episode new  premieres, giving us extra information and insight) it cleared up the whole thing with the Mandalorian houses and clans. They explained the whole Mandalorian hierarchy as it stands at the time of The Clone Wars and Rebels and in the new canon in general.

At the very top is the ruler of Mandalore, (which I'm assuming is where the actual Mandalore figure that we are all familiar with would fit in). Next is the royal guard/special forces of the ruler of Mandalore, who are known as the Protectors (I guess the Journeyman Protectors fall into this group). After that comes all of the Houses, which are all of the important families that serve under the ruler of Mandalore, who are basically the nobles I guess (House Vizla and House Kryze where Satine came from all fall into this group). Next come all of the clans, which serve under the houses and make up a majority of the Mandalorians (this is where Clan Wren, Clan Fett, and Clan Ordo would fit in).

On the topic of Mandalorians, has anyone seem the episode Protector of Concord Dawn? I loved that episode. It was Mandalorian focused and re-canonized many of the things about Mandalorians from the old canon, such as the fact that Mandalorians helped train the clones, and the history of Concord Dawn, and some possible references to the Mandalorian Wars. I loved the part where Sabine called out Fen Rau of the Protectors for an honor duel; they were acting like the proper Mandalorians that we all know and love from the old Expanded Universe.

Also, did anyone see the latest episode Shroud of Darkness? Oh man was it good. This episode is where Rebels has finally crossed the threshold from being just another kid's show into being a darker, more mature, and interesting series that we can enjoy and appreciate, just like how The Clone Wars did in its later seasons. So much stuff from the old canon was brought back and referenced as well, especially stuff from the Old Republic era.

Possibly the biggest reference that almost made we spit my drink out was the mention of Malachor and the role it will play. More and more things from KOTOR II have been referenced in this new season. I will probably have a heart attack if they ever start talking about Revan and the Mandalorian Wars.

The season two mid-season trailer came out a few months ago. Check it out for yourselves and get a taste of what's in store. If you like what you see, then it might make you interested in watching the show, if you've been putting it off because of how kiddy it seemed at first. The Clone Wars started out the same way, and look how it turned out.

Notice the part where Asoka says: "There's always a bit of truth in Legends". That's almost like the creators are directly talking to the fans and saying that stuff from the old Expanded Universe (which is now called Legends) will be used and incorporated into the show.

Here it is:

Hopefully Episode VIII will be much better. At least there will be a different director. Well, there's also Rouge One to look forward to later this year in December.

Clone Wars Era / Re: The Clone Wars - Season VI
« on: March 09, 2016, 09:17:12 PM »
I'm wondering, has anyone heard of any of the stuff from the Clone Wars Legacy? It's basically all the unfinished story arcs released in some form or another, like as books, comics, and story reels.

I've always felt really bad that the Clone Wars was cancelled way before its time. The thing that has always irked me the most about it is how Disney has never given a clear reason for why they pulled the plug on it. Some of the crew from the show said that The Clone Wars was "winding down",  but this is obviously not the case and it's easy to see that they were told to say that by Disney. If it really were "winding down" then they would not have cut it off in the middle of a season they weren't even finished with, and from the looks of all the stuff they released for the Clone Wars Legacy project, it's obvious they had many more stories left to tell. Dave Filoni even said at one point that The Clone Wars would have had a total of around eight seasons, and that the last episodes would have actually been occurring alongside the events of Episode III.

Luckily, the material from the Clone Wars Legacy project at least gave us some closure on some of the storylines from The Clone Wars, like for the stories of Darth Maul and Asajj Ventress. Disney easily could have just moved the show from Cartoon Network to their own channel. Perhaps the reason was because they felt the show was a little too mature for their demographic, which is young children, and if that's the case, then that means that Rebels could get cancelled eventually too once it reaches the same amount of maturity that The Clone Wars reached.

I feel as though the main reason that Disney canceled the Clone Wars and then immediately started on Rebels was because they are done with the Clone Wars era and only want to focus on the Original Trilogy era, evidenced by the fact that so far all of their new expanded universe material has solely been focused on the characters and events from that era, with many more to come. When Disney says that Star Wars is "about the fans", I hope they don't just mean only the fans of just the Original Trilogy and are leaving out all of the other fans. Sooner or later, Disney is going to have to leave this tiny bubble of just the same old Original Trilogy era stuff we all already know, and actually start expanding the Star Wars Universe; I mean, isn't that the whole reason they threw out the old expanded universe in the first place, so that they could make a new one?

Maybe one day once Disney reaches the end of this Cloud 9 high they have on Original Trilogy era stuff a few years from now, then maybe they might decide to bring back the Clone Wars, but at that point, it could be very difficult if Rebels is still going. With Rebels going, it would be almost impossible for Dave Filoni and the team to work on two shows at the same time, unless they found some way to alternate between the two, like make one in the off season of the other, or alternate years. But then again, old cancelled shows have come back before. Maybe it would be much easier than we think for them to jump back in and finish up the Clone Wars if they used all the unfinished story reels and scripts left laying around, which would save them a lot of work. Season 6 was already almost done, and Season 7 was already in production, so that just leaves Season 8 (if that would have been the last one) as the only one left where they would really have to do a lot of work for (if they're not starting from scratch.

By the way, if anyone's curious about what sort of stuff would have been in later seasons, this video details most of it:

If you really want the Clone Wars to come back, there is a petition for it. Spread the word and sign it:

Fanfiction / Re: Star Wars: Episode VII
« on: March 09, 2016, 09:08:59 PM »
This fan fiction sounds way better than what we got with the actual movie. They could have chosen any director other than J.J Abrams. When you ask Abrams to make a new entry in an existing franchise/series, he never makes anything new, he just remakes the same old stuff already existing in that series. This fan fiction is 100 times more creative than Abram's copy and paste of Episode 4. I wonder what would have been in that story treatment by George Lucas that Disney threw out? This fan fiction could make for a good "what if" version for what was in that discarded story treatment.

Does anyone have any good Mandalorian names that start with a "D", preferably one word? I'm trying to think of a really good name for my Bounty Hunter player character that I'm making for Star Wars: The Old Republic. His backstory that I came up with for him in my head is that he's a Mandalorian.

I heard that 1313 could still be on the table for development. Visceral Games is apparently working on an open world Star Wars game. That could possibly be 1313, or at least some incarnation of it.
