New Spoiler Tag
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:25:37 PM »
I just added a new feature... the spoiler tag!

If you surround text with
OMG, Vader is Luke's father!
, it will appear in your post as this:
OMG, Vader is Luke's father!
Cool, eh? It's something I've been meaning to add, but didn't get to it till now. I'm going to be fiddling with it for a bit to make it look all pretty, but if you're wondering what the new "Sp" button on the post screen is... well, there you have it!

Please note that you don't need to post things behind spoiler tags if you're in a thread with "SPOILER" in the title. But in other threads, here's a way to do it instead of making the text black or leaving space or whatever people have been doing up to this point. :)

Sweet, the forums at gametoast have those and they're really helpful if you want to hide spoilers or large pictures.

Absolute NOT. Threads that are going to have spoilers should still be marked as having spoiler in them.

Yes, indeed. This is if you want to include spoilers in threads that aren't specifically dedicated to discussing those spoilers.

If you want to discuss the latest book, for example, in all its gory detail, you just put *SPOILERS* in the thread title and then you can discuss as you please within - and you don't need to hide the spoilers - because people were adequately warned.

the irony that you made a spoiler button hiding a fact that isn't spoiling anything because everyone knows it makes me laugh.  i love irony

In case anyone was wondering...
A spoiler is an automotive aerodynamic device whose intended design function is to 'spoil' unfavorable air movement across a body of a vehicle in motion. Spoilers are often fitted to race and high-performance sports cars, although they have become common on passenger vehicles, as well. Some spoilers are added to cars primarily for styling purposes and have either little aerodynamic benefit or even make the aerodynamics worse.

Spoilers for automobiles are often incorrectly confused with, or even used interchangeably with, wings. Automotive wings are devices whose intended design is to generate downforce as air passes around them, not simply disrupt existing airflow patterns.

A spoiler is also a summary or description of a narrative (or part of a narrative) that relates plot elements not revealed early in the narrative itself. Moreover, because enjoyment of a narrative sometimes depends upon the dramatic tension and suspense which undergird it, this early revelation of plot elements can "spoil" the enjoyment that some consumers of the narrative would otherwise have experienced.

I love how this thread has gone from a serious announcement to just doing random stuff with spoiler tags.   :D
Still, we'll probably just get bored in a while once the novelty wears off. ;)
