Thanks, 38.

And, Ruusan, how do you figure out what's your Elvish name?

you'd have to know what your name meant then translate it using the vast amounts of Elvish Word documents you have on your computer. at least that's how i did it...i could translate yours if you like.

Timothy>meaning "honor God"> Erutáron  (literally "lofty God")

EDIT: nearly a year later, I close my parentheses. ^_^

Erm...Christian? lol. Actually, in Greek, Christian means "little Christ," but there are some other meanings given in the modern world...
-a Christian
-of the Christian faith
-follower of the Son of God (in Elvish it's a mouthfull: Aphaderuiondur  lol)

...so that's what I've found. Good luck!

I split the names discussion and gave it its own thread.

My Mando'a name is Cyare... it means 'beloved', same as Amy. :)

Dwayne> meaning  "little and dark" also "wagon maker" > since "wagon maker' really wouldn't translate well...i suppose this is what you have to work with...

ca-night
ne'tra-black
'ika-the affectionate "little" suffix
Netika?
Caika?
I guess it's open to interpretation.

Andrew> meaning "manly">so I'm thinking Jagyc, which is "male" in Mando'a.

I've had little luck translating my own name because there are no words for "grace" or "God" in Mando'a, so I'll just stick with Ruusaan. ;)

Thanks Ruusaan. I think Netika is the best name for me (Dwayne> Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Dubhan which means "little and dark", derived from dubh "dark, black" combined with a diminutive suffix.)

How about Alexander? (In both Elvish and Mando'a if possible)
"Think of yourselves as a hand. Each of you is a finger, and without the others you're useless. Alone, a finger can't grasp, or control, or form a fist. You are nothing on your own, and everything together."

I've been looking for someting like that as well since my name means God's grace, but have yet to find anything close. I think the dictionary is going to be updated in March, so maybe there'll be something then.

How about Alexander? (In both Elvish and Mando'a if possible)

Alexander> "defender of men" > Beriadan in Elvish,  ara'novor is (to) "obstruct," "defend," or "blockade," so maybe like, Aranov? If you remove the -or from the root of the verb, you'll generally get some kind of noun. (I think that made sense...)

Darren

The meaning of this name is not known for certain. It was first brought to popular attention by the American actor Darren McGavin (1922-2006). It could be from an Irish surname (which possibly means "great") or it could be a derivation of DARRYL.
another meanign is resourceful??

my name in chinese means little dragon in the sky
