Darren

The meaning of this name is not known for certain. It was first brought to popular attention by the American actor Darren McGavin (1922-2006). It could be from an Irish surname (which possibly means "great") or it could be a derivation of DARRYL.

my name in chinese means little dragon in the sky

the closest I found was Daran>"little great one"> nothing i could come up with in Mando'a made any sense. they were all rather strange-sounding...middle name perhaps? or what you wish your name was? lol

Erm...well...your problem is identical to mine. Jessica means "God's grace," "YHWH beholds," or "wealthy." <(ha!) I haven't found any of these words in Mando'a, so I just adopted Ruusaan. lol. Middle name maybe? Don't tell me you got saddled with Marie as well. lol.

Hey look, I found my spreadsheet!  XD

I refuse to share my full name with the class, so let's use my nickname:

My nickname, Jai, is a Sanskrit name meaning "victory".

So my Mando'a name would be Parjai.

...nice!

Well, Ruusaan, my middle name is Ethel. Try deciphering that one, lol. Actually, my dad wanted to name me Ethel... but my mom wouldn't have it. I'd prefer Ethel over Jessica though, quite honestly. :D

Well, my mon wanted Gwen for my middle name, so I;d match the "g" middle names of the rest of my family, but my dad won. lol.

Ethel...I had a bit of a time with this, but I think I got close.

Ethel>meaning "noble"> (I looked for noble, and honorable, but wound up with honor. is that ok?) Ijaat in Mando'a.

Since Timothy means 'honouring God' in Mando'a it should be: Ijaat'ir Manda (Since Mando'ade don't believe in religion I'm substituting belief in race for it.) Perhaps I should lose the verb form... Ijaat Manda, Noble/Honour Man... not bad. :)

Wait, isn't the original meaning of kandosii 'noble'? If that's the case, I would be Kandosii instead of Ijaat...

Try Tyler or Robert. PLZ

Tyler> meaning "tiler of roofs"> didn't find anything in Mando'a on that one...

Robert> meaning "bright fame" > "dral" bright, and I used "kote" for fame. There's reference to fame in a Mando drinking song, but I don't believe we get the word outright. "Kote lo'shebs'ul narit," is where it appears, and that's translated as "You can keep your glory." But  after further research into the translation, we find that you're being told where you can put it...so I'm thinking Dralkote?

Yes...I recently translated that myself, too.  Apparently there are a few Mando'ade out there with very interesting language.

My name...
Well. "Kathryn" is a form of "Katherine," which translates to "pure" in the modern form and..."each of the two" in the ancient. Closest I could come to pure is something like Adiik. But each of the two would be "solus be t'ad," I believe. So..."Solu'tad"?

EDIT: Apparently the drastic change between the forms is because of a saint with the name.

I was wondering about that...Solu'tad...that's cool.  :D

Haha. I think I just found the name for my squad's training sergeant.  ;)

As for the Mando drinking song, anytime "insert", "into", and "shebs" are in the same line, it can't be too polite.   My first response was that I was reading it way wrong...but there aren't too many other ways you can take that.

Something just occured to me. "Kote" is listed as being plural, a la "glories". So would it be Dralkot, then?

Bal kote would be "and glories". Dral kote would be "bright glories". Eh. The dictionary says kote is plural. All I knows, I knows no more.
