If he hasn't got a weilding helmet, a bottle is alot easier to be bought. But yes, that would work better.

I still haven't come to a decision about the visor yet.  I have however been making progress on the top part and the back.

I thought I should post an update.  Last month my mum decided that she didn't like my modelling supplies (paints, glues, etc) being piled up in a corner out of the way in my room, so she put them all away in my new chest-of-drawers and inadvertently ended up squashing everything I'd done on the helmet so far (as I had stored it in there to try and keep it from being accidentally squashed, ironically).  I've had a look at it and the front of it is OK, although it needs quite a lot of work to re-attach a few things, but the back is completely squashed and bent out of shape so its probably going to be easier to start again on that bit.

I have thought about leaving what I've got where it is and just restarting from new again on this.  I've been looking into more cardboard and am looking at some slightly thinner stuff (which should be easier to bend and, hopefully, not tear apart so easily at the joints) and comes in a pack of 250 sheets, more then enough to do a complete set of armour should I decide to (the other pack I got was only 24 sheets).  It'd also be a good chance for me to get new glue (the one I got before wasn't as strong as I'd hoped) and a new pair of scissors (as my current ones are broken).

RC helmet: done.

It is.  I still haven't yet decided what I'm going to do with it.  I feel quite bad at the thought of just throwing it into the recycling as I did put quite a lot of effort into the progress I made but at the same time I'd feel better starting again totally from scratch as I've made a few minor mistakes along the way in addition to the damage that was caused recently.

Today I ordered more card and glue so by the end of this week I should hopefully have started work on a second version, this time with the numbers printed on so I can line them up exactly rather then manually number the back of each tab so I know roughly where to attach it.  I have also thought about what to do afterwards and seeing the price of resin and fibreglass cloth is much lower then I expected I might go and get those and some paint once I've  finished the card version to strengthen the helmet and decorate it.

The stuff came on Friday and I've been remaking it since then.  So far I have part of the top and right-front done, and will probably work on the rest of the top and left-front over the next few days.  Here is a pic of my progress:

The past couple of days progress has been slow but today I hit a milestone.  The dome of the top of the helmet is done!  Well, I've still got a couple of minor bits to add in but all the major stuff on it is done now.

Its turned out a little b it bigger then I'd anticipated, but at least that means it is more likely to fit me.  I have noticed a few discrepancies with the model used in the film (which my one is based on) but if I decide to go beyond just cardboard and start using resin, body filler, etc I should be able to alter it as necessary without too much problem.

So, on to finishing the front of the helmet.  Then I'll probably tackle the ear parts as they'll be the most tricky (due to some VERY fiddly parts in them) before finishing with the back of the helmet.

Is that the "Airman Shield" from RC?
If so, oddly enough, that's what I use for my head in Multiplayer.

No, as the title of the thread says this is the full Cone Pilot helmet from Attack of the Clones rather then an RC helm.

I also use the airman shield in multiplayer (or I did before it was shut off for Xbox).

Anyway, might as well do a bit more progress update (no pics though).  Today I've gotten most of the front done and will probably move onto the ear parts tomorrow.  At this rate I should be done within the next week.

I spelled it wrong to prove a point.

And also, Grammar Nazi encompasses spelling, because "Grammar and Spelling Nazi" is too much to say...

On topic, I've been watching this closely, and I'm glad you've started again, Flyboy!

I'm glad too because its going much better then before, and because this time I'm paying more attention as to which side of the card to score on, plus the fact the slightly thinner card is a bit easier to work with, its coming out much better.

More progress pics and this time its of the front.  Just started on the first of the ear parts and as expected its very fiddly work with lots of small tabs to cut out, score and glue.  At least once they are out of the way its just the back that needs doing which is mostly large parts that are simple to cut and score.
