What he has said about this is that if the Star Wars movies are made, they won't be made by him.

That's promising, at least.
But, I wonder if whoever did try to make a new (EU) movie would still have to beg for George's approval. (i.e. Do you think Lucas would still have final say?)

Quote
I'd rather see someone with more passion for Star Wars (EU) on the top.
Same here... Someone that has the desire that Lucas did, so long ago.

-Maybe we could get John Woo...
Then we could also get Nick Cage and John Re-volta to play Quinlan Vos and Roan Shryne. And, instead of Temurra; we'll get Tom Cruise to play Alpha-17

It's kind of funny when you think about it.

Everything about the mandalorians that you guys love...is a direct result of Lucas 'dumping' on the EU.

Back before the prequels were even in pre-production, the EU established that the mandalorians were a race of warriors, literally long-dead.  Boba was just a bounty hunter with an enthusiastic interest in collecting and using mandalorian paraphernalia.  That armor type was so rare that when one other guy was seen wearing it, (Jodo Kast) he was automatically assumed to be boba fett.

There was some conflicting info about this at the time and later, but that's the basics from what I remember from when I was an EU fan of the early 90s.  Then the prequels came, and the intro of Jango Fett, and the clone army...and...the EU had to make all kinds of twists and backflips to accommodate.

And now, indirectly, we have a mando-based clone army, jango and the mando culture for people to love and admire.

I could have said BAH!  Boba Fett was a journeyman protector, not a Mandalorian...  they screwed it all up.  They are losing fans because of this crap.  But history proves otherwise my friends.

I suspect its more like the way Fenn sees it:

Things will change, people may get peeved, but no matter what...what Lucas makes *IS* star wars.  Everything else is just an echo from fans  (and at their core, the creators of the EU are Star Wars fans...they kinda have to be.)

Fenn, IC, would you stop trying to depose Lucas? if you want a universe where the top people care about the universe that much, make your own.

Why should I? Is it forbidden to have something against Lucas, simply because he created Star Wars?

Well, I can hardly stop you from hating him, but it makes no sense to do so... so he doesn't feel the enthusiasm you wish he would? Then... DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I get tired of listening to people grump about things and never work to change them, or make a new thing that fulfills their expextations...

I don't hate the guy, it's just annoying he doesn't care so much about the EU.

What should I do then?

like I said. You seem to have very specific ideas about how your favorite universes should be run, so... make your own. Run it how you see fit. Then, if you get popular, see if you can spend all day reading the books about your universe, while balancing the strain of, you know, running a multi-million-dollar franchise and trying to appease six million rabid fans who all say that everything you do is wrong...

Okay, first: If you don't have such specific ideas about how Star Wars should be, how can you say Lucas is messing up?

Second: If you don't want to, then suck it up and stop whining about how Lucas is so bad at his job, alright? It's harder than it looks.

Third: You really don't get how economics work, do you? If you become successful, it's very close to a necessity.

Fourth: Yeah, you definitely don't get it. CEOs and corporate presidents might have larger salaries than everyone else, maybe too large, but theys till have to do a lot of work. Everyone looks at Lucas for stuff, he's constantly doing stuff, and it's hardly like you can just delegate all your work away... you're saying you'd take the "total scumbag" route to management: take all the money, do none of the work. There's always things to do in a large endeavor.

Fourth: This is a very important point. Fans are never satisfied. Ever. You can find the best universe ever brought to the fictional genra, and you'll still find thousands of people whining about how things are so messed up. There is never, and I truly mean never, a totally satisfied fanbase. Ever.

Dude if you haven't noticed: almost every RC, IC or Mando fan is disappointed how things went with KT and how Mandos are shown in the Clone Wars. Who approved? > Lucas. I don't have any more specific ideas how Star Wars would be. If I had, I probably wasn't even was a Star Wars fan.

actually, I've met many people who love Mandalorians and the Commandos who don't go spewing hatred at Lucas at all. Many, maybe even most think he's doing okay.

And it is at this point where things will degenerate into a flame war without outside intervention.

Okay, I suppose I needed to phrase that differently... still, the point is: if you don't like what he's doing, either take proactive steps to get him to change, make your own universe to mangle as you see fit, or just stop complaining. It's not getting you anywhere...

I don't see IC-1989 as complaining really.  I think it's just some healthy venting amongst friends.

IC-1989 has strong feelings about mandalorians and likely feels betrayed by the recent changes to what he thought was a pretty solid set of 'facts'.  It's easy to assume, on a site like this, that everyone shares your views, it's easy to make some extreme statements. You're not anticipating a contrary opinion to what you believe is self-evident.

Like if I went on a US Military forum, I'd feel pretty comfortable bashing Bin Laden.  But if I was on an international forum, I'd still feel the same way about Bin Laden, but I might choose my phrases a bit more carefully, in the event I ended up in a debate.

I think he realizes that even if you hate what Lucas does, you still have to have a core respect for the man that created the universe so beloved by so many.  Part of the frustration comes from the knowledge that there really isn't anything you can do to change what Lucas does.

I learned a long time ago that you just have to ride the wave when it comes to Star Wars canon.  When the surf's up, its great fun.  Otherwise, it's a lot of paddling around trying to stay afloat.

Time for another history lesson for the ill-informed.

You might wish that someone who cared more about the EU was in charge of the EU...and hey, that means you clearly don't understand how the Lucas Licensing Company works. The Licensing Company has one head, at the moment I think it's Sue Rostoni. But you have to understand - the only thing that Sue Rostoni has done for ANY Lucas Company is...work on the EU. Sue is the George Lucas of the Expanded Universe, carefully crafting choreographing, editing, collecting, revising and retconning the Expanded Universe.

The Clone Wars TV series is from LucasFILM Animation, which is spun off of LucasFILM, not Lucas Licensing. So...TCW really doesn't have much of a connection to the Expanded Universe.

But there IS someone who cares much more deeply about the Expanded Universe in charge of the Expanded Universe, so wishing for that is pretty silly, since it already exists.

True, Mark.  Peeps need to learn where to lay the blame if they're gonna do it. lolz
And Sue Rostoni's also the one responsible for saying they're not giving up on Rep/ImpCom series and if they're losing Traviss, they're gonna find somebody else to pick it back up.

Likewise. Thanks Dred. And I certainly don't hate Lucas, either. [I try not to hate anybody, if I can help it].

That is very good news. Although looking at Rostoni's blog (which is very outdated); she still lists KT's IC2 as coming out in Nov 2010. -maybe she knows something we don't. [Hope... hope... hope!]

I didn't even know this lady existed until a minute ago; and, all ready I like the cut of her jib

I'm certainly not trying to depose him. But, if he says he's not making any more SW movies; and, I want more SW movies - then, I'll continue hoping that someone picks up the ball and runs with it; (either that, or George has a change of heart).

And, if I ever get around to creating my own universe; I want everyone to know that you're all invited.
[Although, some of you might have to stand ( - There will be very few chairs in my universe]
