The Clone Wars Adventures
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:36:56 PM »
Sony Online Entertainment have just announced what appears to be a new MMO based upon the Clone Wars TV series.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-star-wars/100769

Its due for release later this year, and I'm interested to see more before making a decision about it.

3 new gameplay trailers.

Starship gameplay trailer

Republic Defender gameplay

Lightsaber Strike gameplay

I also found a video interview that I never noticed before.

So, the game will be free with a few missions requiring full membership to access them, and certain cosmetic items will be available through micro-transactions only.  It appears to be an entirely mini-game based game, with competitive scoreboards with your friends.

I think this game will be a record breaker!

I expect as it'll have a free version that it'll just be a downloadable game.  I also expect it will get lots of players, most of whom are either kids or big SW fans who will play absolutely anything without a second thought.

Nor am I.... but I am still going to try and play this.
ok, maybe I lied.... I might be a kid still at heart. :P
As I said, I'm a HUGE fan of mini games like there are three or four sites I wait to play all the new ones that come out.   (onemorelevel.com, Addictinggames, Armorgames, Miniclips) and I play and beat most of them.    So knowing that a minigame that is STAR WARS I can't wait to play it.

Though if its going to cost a lot then there is a chance I won't...

From what was said in the interview video, most content will be free and everything that requires full membership will have a limited version available for free with a level or 2 in.

I'll give it a try (it's Star wars, after all!) but I'm not as optimistic about it as I usually am...

My personal guess is that it's Lucasarts answer to such kiddy MMOs as Club Penguin and such. Perfectly fine and reasonable, just not targeted to our age-range. I doubt I'll ever get bored enough to give it a try, but if my little sisters want to play it more than watching little flash-rendered penguins waddling around, more power to them.

That's kinda what I was thinking, too.  Club Penguin, or maybe Adventure Quest Worlds, but with TCW rendered people.  I dunno, I think it'd be okay if you were looking less for an awesome MMO and more of just like an interactive chat room.  Create a dude, find some place to chill, and talk to your peeps online with some mini-games thrown in for fun.  Could be fun in a simple sorta way.  Not like TOR, but just something you'd log into from time to time. *shrug*

Gametrailers have a gameplay walkthrough from E3 on their site.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-star-wars/700577 - Part 1

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-star-wars/700583 - Part 2 (features disco dancing Boba Fett!)

So, the main things I can see are that everything is indeed mini-game based as mentioned earlier in this thread, all the mini-games appear to be non-canonical, customisation seems to have lots of options, with Anakin and Boba Fett costumes shown off, plus you can have droid pets with their own upgrades like disco for R2 droids.

See, this is nice.  I like this.  It's just for fun, with no crapping on canon for a quick cash in.  Thank you Lucas peeps!
