What was Etain thinking?!!!
« on: October 27, 2011, 04:04:09 PM »
What was Etain thinking when Her and Skirata were on the dock, and Etain told him about the "Check!" order, and she asked "Is he programmed?" about Ordo? That was just DUMB! And I like Etain, sort of.  ;)

She didn't know any better, the whole idea of clones were a relatively new concept to everyone, nobody really knew (besides the Kaminoans of course) exactly how they worked.

I feel different. If you read the book, you'll see she was debating with herself if she actually saw the clones as men, or if she just wanted to be Skiratas "little girl". I think that, until she told Kal about her pregnancy, she didn't really see them as equals. After she revealed to Kal about it BOOM! She sees them like men.

First:

Code: [Select]
Buyir

Is not how to convert something to italics. This is:

Code: [Select]
Buyir

That way only the words inside the code are in italics.

Second:

I find this offense to people using programming in relation to clones amusing. Programming, when applied to people, is a process in which an idea/action is placed inside someone's head to be done with certain stimuli. Sounds a lot like the system of orders the clone have, right?

The opposite of this process, called deprogramming, is essentially interrogation in reverse. Here's a real life example:

A cult leader convinces his followers that he is god's prophet and that they must kill his enemies to find salvation using programming. When the proper authorities apprehend the cult leader and cultists, a deprogrammer is used to build the cultists up again, instilling a self-confidence that allows them to move past their ordeal and continue their lives.

Drake is flamboyant, and may go over the top, but if he were not that extrovert then who would move things along?

True, but I think it's just that when the other side is droids and uses literal programming...it just seems off.

It's spelled buir

Honestly? That isn't even the dumbest thing Etain has ever done. This is tame in comparison. At least she got yelled at for this one...

I think the dumbest thing she did was not tell Dar about the baby until she did. I think things would have turned out alot different.

Well, that and the part where she continues to run around a war zone while pregnant...and let's not even get started on her death...I mean, geez, the girl has the common sense of a brick. Actually, bricks have more common sense than her. A LOT more.

LOL guys, but seriously, do you have to call Etain a brick?

I'd refer to her more as a emotionless jedi, who loves her husband, but doesn't have the guts to tell him that she's havin a baby! If ya ask me, she did some petty dumb stuff.

Not that I hold a grudge against Etain or anything.........

Ya but just like Anakin, there were many different things she could have done in order to have things turn out differently.

I agree with Eparavu. It's not a good situation for anyone, she didn't "deserve" to be killed and all the whining and griping and what-ifs are kinda pointless.

Let's be honest: At least bricks are useful.

I will however, continue to second this. She didn't do much, over the course of the series. Besany was more productive in six hours than Etain was in the entire first book.

Even rereading atm, it is hard to like Etain.
I think now that I have a better grasp I like her less than the first time through. Benefit of the doubt, and all. Kind of a swift kick to reders like me to kill her off, "Develop her as a character? NAW.  Play dead girl!"

But she was the perfect nieve Jedi, even after she learned all that stuff outside the order.

But Jedi don't have to BE naive. That is one thing that kinda bugged me about the RepCom series. Not every Jedi is an emotionally stunted child with no knowledge of the outside world. They go out, they experience things, they HELP people, and most have a pretty good understanding of how things work. I agree that the whole "army of slaves" thing was a really big slip-up on the order's part and there are a lot of Jedi who are pompous, sanctimonious, naive, jerks, etc. But not all of them are like that. In fact, I'd argue a good portion of them AREN'T.

The fact is that Etain has no common sense, makes no effort to improve throughout the series in ANY aspect of her life (from being a weak Jedi to being a proper Mando), and doesn't seem to think about long-term consequences or how her actions will affect others (it borders on selfish sometimes). So, basically, Bella Swan.

I wasn't saying that they every jedi is a emotionally stunted child, just her and she fits they bill of what some in the star wars universe veiw what the jedi are. I know most aren't but people tend to write them that way in the Republic era of books.

I will say that Etain was young. She was still a padawan. Also, she wasn't a very skilled force user. I can olso see how her death happened. When you grow to love and know a certain thing, you want to protect it. IE Etain wanted to protect something (the clone) because clones had helped her and had become her family.

(Etain should go all Obi-Wan on the commandos!)

i have read the books over so many times my copies are starting to fall apart and i am a careful reader.   -lol-

i still dislike Etain,  yes she has good intentions etc. She still made a lot of bad choices, but can you honestly
say you have NEVER EVER made a bad call of your own?

She was a more 'human' jedi then we are used too.  "To err is human."

I still cry for her loss and how it impacts on Kal, Darman, Kad. etc. i am a wuss like that.  ;)

take care all!

-hugs-
