Hacking Attempt...?
« on: November 19, 2011, 12:26:56 PM »
I've had this problem for about a week now. When I try and chnge my signature with new text and a new image, I get an error saying "Hacking attempt".

I want to add a few favourite quotes of mine to my sig, along with the image I currently have, but it is "hacking". What should I do?

Well the easiest way to change/add new sigs is by using an online image storage website like Photobucket, uploading your desired sig there, and then using the given IMG code to post it into your signature.

for example

But you have to upload it online first.

Does it only happen when you try to change both, or can you change just text or the image? Does it work if you take out the image?

Also, if you have more than one browser on your computer, try to login with another one and do it there. They'd probably solve it if it's an authentication problem.

It sounds like it might be a bug with the forum software. There's not a lot I can do without knowing whether it's just you, and what exactly triggers it.

Alright, ignore my previous post. I just checked the forum error log, and I think it may be because of your Personal Text having an apostrophe. Take out the apostrophes in your text fields and try again.

If that's the actual problem, that's a really stupid bug with the forum software.

After trying it out a few times yes, it is the apostrophe. Weird!

If you need to use an apostrophe, you can precede it with a backslash. So you'd type : \'

You'll have to add it every time you edit your profile though.

I'll see if I can't fix this little bug when I have some time to go look for it in the code...

So the forum software thought it was an SQL injection attack?  Seems a bit long-winded to detect certain characters and display an error if they are present.  I'm surprised it doesn't just escape all characters using one of the many pre-built functions to enable users to enter these characters without getting an error.

I find this place is very glitched. Sometimes the modify function doesn't work.

First of all, this place isn't 'very glitched', as you put it. Everything has its little bugs. If this place was 'very glitched', it would spaz out and all kinds of weird osik would happen.

Second, you are the only poster I can recall EVER complaining about the modify function. And I've been here for coming on four years. While I certainly don't remember every single complaint lodged, I can tell you that if it was a problem, more people would report it.

I don't remember anyone having a bunch of complaints about the site before you, Laney. Like N-11, I've been here for years. Also, maybe instead of complaining to Amy about how her site is so "very glitched", you should thank her for paying out of pocket to keep this place up and running.

Drake is flamboyant, and may go over the top, but if he were not that extrovert then who would move things along?

Has no one else been unable to modify a post?

And sorry Amy, I guess Drake and N-11 are right.

By all means, point out any glitches you find. I'm sure there are many. But there isn't a lot I can do about it if no one else seems to have the same problem and/or I can't replicate it.

If I have a good stretch of time at home, I'm planning on upgrading the forums to SMF 2.0. The main issue is I completely have to re-do the design. It took me months to do the design originally for this forum, which is why I haven't been keen to jump right in. I hope I can find time to get that up in the next 6 months or so.

Okay, if we're reporting glitches: whenever I type a long post, it repeatedly jumps to the top as soon as the text is more than the viewing box size. After. Every. Single. Character. It's driving me crazy. I know someone asked about this earlier, but I tried the suggestion that worked for them and it didn't help. Anyone else having this problem?

I had that Rune. Switch to compatability view on your browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, it should be to the right of the address bar.

I have no idea.  I've never seen any option for compatibility view on Firefox, just Internet Explorer.

I did want to say that I approve of that sig addition, though, Eparavu. :cute:
