Assassin's Creed III
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:54:05 PM »

"The game will complete the story of Desmond Miles, and will focus on a new ancestor, a half Native American Assassin who fought during the American Revolution."

Release date: October 30, 2012

Figured this topic was gonna happen sooner or later, so...it might as well be me who made it. :P  Okay, here's a look at the cover art, and what little they've finally told us.  American Revolution and a half Native American Assassin.  With a bow, Assassiny-looking tomahawk, and a flint-lock pistol.  Awesome!

Comments?  Thoughts?  Discuss! :D
"To say nothing is true, is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic."

Well I'll be damned . . .

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/03/01/april-cover-revealed-assassin-39-s-creed-iii.aspx

Interesting setting, I was looking at the French Revolution myself, due to the hints left at the end of Brotherhood but . . .

I'm not sure, Ubisoft will have to change the movement system quite a bit to factor in the major lack of significant buildings in Colonial America. But if they can factor in trees and rocks and other natural formations, an Assassin's Creed game taking place on the frontier could be pretty interesting.

Hopefully the new Assassin is just as memorable as Ezio. Still, I'm psyched!

Oh Dear God...*loses consciousness* this looks so awesome, SOO much more excited for this than I was for Revelations.

And on the subject of movement, if they evenly space it out between the Frontier climbing (rocks, mountains, trees, ect.) and the major colonial cities, it wouldn't have to change all that much. Boston, New York, Philadelphia, all of them had large expanses of several-story buildings. There wouldn't be anything all that HIGH to climb, except mountains and trees, but it would still work.

I get the feeling ACIII might play a lot like Red Dead: Redemption.

Ridiculously awesome.

Btw, it's looking like this new Assassin doesn't have the hidden blade...I cant see it in any of the pictures posted so far...

Official Announcement Trailer.

No hidden blade used so far...only his Tomahawk...

EDIT: I just read that the Hidden Blade is in fact in the game, just not in this trailer for some reason...the person who said this claims they read it in this month's GameInformer, which hasn't come to my house yet, so I can't confirm that for you guys. I will do so as soon as possible, though.

It did seem to be rather pushy . . . we have daytime remains/nighttime massacre/epic battle with G Dub. Plus the graphics didn't seem to be on par with the other cinematics.

Maybe there will be another trailer, who knows . . .

Or there is also the Frontier gameplay demo from the Ubisoft press conference.

Also, appreciate the Mythosaur skull tshirt the voice actor for Connor is wearing at 3:25.

I don't like that two themes have been abandoned, or at least they appear to be, in the main character:

First, the lip scar that Altair, Ezio, and Desmond all share is not there yet, however we may see Connor get it later in the game. Much like how we saw Ezio get his scar in the opening fight with the Pazzi.

Second, Connor's Native Name doesn't mean "Eagle", it means something like "Struggle to Survive". Altair is Arabic for Eagle, and Ezio means that same in Greek, and it seemed to be an interesting thematic reoccurred.

I noticed both of those as well. It seems they worked with Ezio and Altair for so long, they wanted to go with some new themes.

And I believe he'll get the scar later in the game.

Maybe Connor will get some sort of Native American title that means "Eagle" for doing something during the game.

They do have a couple theories in the game already. I'll have to see how it plays out. My partner in ACIII crime Mia can probably help me with it too.
Haytham's Eagle vision means he's of Altair and Ezio's bloodlines (human-first civ offspring), and is not tied to them being Assassins. Haytham was lured over to the Templar's at a young age, but that doesn't have an effect on his biology.
Alright, finally finished the game.
What a lame ending to Desmond's storyline. Basically send humanity back to the stone age, or release Juno and hope somebody finds a way to stop her. And it won't be you, or one of your descendants, because you're DEAD and had no children. OR any brothers and sisters.

So who is going to be the present-time Assassin in the next game?

Well, Desmond kills Cross in ACIII. For all his talk of being such a badass and killing the Assassin's Mentor, Cross was a big pushover.
So I finished the game and well
A little disappointed by the resolution, if you could even call it that. And is it just me, or does anyone else think that the game should have completely been centered around Haytham as the ancestor. He was way more interesting than Connor, who had the emotional variety of a brick. Haytham was classy, a bit arrogant, and very "the ends justify the means". Connor was just pissed off all the time, the dude never smiled.

The game should've spent more time on Desmond as well. But I really loved all the improvements and additions they made to the game mechanics. The storyline was just very disconnected and felt like it was playing through in notes form, the events didn't flow together well at all.

This is the first game where the Assassins didn't have the moral high-ground, the Templars did. That is going to make the player generally like Connor less, and Haytham more. Also, Connor was overly attached to his tribe, whereas previously, Altair and Ezio were dedicated to the cause.

That is definitely true. I'm glad that the dev team decided to bring some intelligence back to its post-assassination Templar limbo realm discussions. All the enemies in Revelations seemed extraordinarily dull, they were basically "We Templars! Control good, freedom bad! So we must kill people! We bad!" The moments in AC3 were much more interesting, and reminded me a lot of the ones in the first Assassin's Creed. Hickey's was my favorite by far.

There needs to be some word for these moments in the games. Saying "post-assassination Templar limbo realm discussions" gets a little tiresome.

And there is no modern-day person in Liberation, along with Cross being dead.

Its unfortunate that they had to make Connor such a lame character, my dislike of him didn't come at all from the 'moral high-ground' issue. I enjoyed that aspect immensely, it felt much more realistic and added a layer of thought and intrigue into the story. Kinda like the recent Batman movies, the main character must take the moral low-ground to achieve the final greater good. It also creates some sympathy for the enemy, which I always find interesting. Makes the story less childish.

Haytham just had interesting character aspects, unrelated to his moral high-ground, that were more interesting. I thoroughly disliked him at many points, but I had to admit, he had charisma and personality.

And another thing, why the hell did they choose that particular voice actor for Connor? He was terrible. His voice was so robotic, which early on in the game fit his character quite well, but later on was just pointless. After all the years of not only speaking English, but also being around people, he should have become at least a LITTLE more loose in his speech.

How many voice actors speak Mowhawk? They went for authenticicty and accuracy of language, opposed to acting skill in this one. Personally, though, I wouldn't have made the same decsision.
Drake is flamboyant, and may go over the top, but if he were not that extrovert then who would move things along?
I'm not sure the voice actor spoke Mowhawk before he was cast, I think he just memorized how to pronounce all the Mowhawk lines. I could easily be incorrect about that though, and if I am, that's impressive.

But I agree. I would have made a different choice.

Ah, I see. Didn't know that.

But still...couldn't they have gotten him a voice coach for his English or something?

Also, there was no "nothing is true, everything is permitted." Ever uttered. (Or I don't remember) But, come on! Isn't that important?
