Inheritance OOC
« on: May 29, 2012, 03:14:15 AM »
Hey guys. Long time no post.

So was thinking of trying to role-play again after......geez at least 5 years. Since the Halo genre is ramping up again i figured id ride with that and see who's in.

Current Plot Idea:

Year: 2545
Planet: Actium
Halopedia Page on battle: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Actium

During the heroic campaign of Colonel Acono Mentiath and his 53th Armored there was a unit of Spartan-IIIs, Kilo Team. Also in battle were General Wilfred Thanas and Forward Admiral Bruce Hadmin, both fighting on the front lines and refusing to retreat as per orders from HIGHCOM and the Office of Naval Intelligence. Kilo Team has been deployed by ONI to rescue this High Value Individuals, whether they like it or not.

Id like everyone before we start to post a easy quick profile of sorts. Something like this:

Richard - Spartan-A033
Homeworld: Arcadia
Born: August 23, 2525
Entered Spartan Program: April 2532

Short Bio: Born the same year as the beginning of the Human-Covenant War some would say you were born to fight it. During the attack by the Covenant armada on Arcadia, Richard's family was evacuated but he was split from his parents when boarding a transport off world. He watched as Covenant Wraith tanks blew the transport out of the sky. he eventually ended up in an orphanage until a UNSC officer arrived and asked is he wanted revenge. At age 6 Richard wanted it. he joined the officer and 6 months later found himself on Onyx under Lieutenant Commander Kurt Ambrose to become a Spartan. His original team was split 6 years after training completion after two Spartans were too hurt for duty and the other cracked under stress. Thus began Richard being tossed from one team to the next. He faces a similar situation on Actium.

Let me know what you guys think.

Marcus "Hannibal"  - Spartan-A172
Homeworld: Jericho VII
Born: April 4, 2520
Entered Spartan Program: Conscripted into the Spartan-III program with Alpha Company
Ranks: Lieutenant

Short Bio: Marc was recruited as a trainee for the Spartan-III program after he was orphaned by a Rebel bombing in 2525    He began his training at Camp Currahee under Lt. Cdr.  Ambrose in 2531.  He went "active" with the rest of the Spartan-III's November of 2536.    He was Insurrection of Mamore where he was eager to get revenge on the Insurrectionist, but he was even more eager to get revenge on the Covenant who had recently glassed his homeplanet Jericho VII.   Marc was present during the The Battle of New Constantinople and along with the rest of SPARTAN-III's of Alpha Company fought well in the battle and were highly distinguished for their actions during the engagement.   He was severely injured during Operation: PROMETHEUS in which most of Alpha Company was killed.   After a two year recovery he rejoined the Human-Covenant war.  He became a decorated marksman and tactical mastermind giving him the nickname "Hannibal" after the great Carthaginian military commander and tactician during Roman times.

Wolf "Psycho" Fox
Homeworld:Circumstance
Born: December 30 2519
Enlisted in Spartan Program: 2525
Rank: Chief Warrant Officer (grade 2)

Bio:
!!WARNING DO NOT PROCEED WITHOUT CLEARANCE!!
Wolf was born on Circumstance and at the age of six was abducted due to his "Qualifying Aspects" for the Spartan 3 program all thats known as to why Wolf was selected is his family line...All throughout the Spartan III program Wolf was enjoying it, he saw it as a game. Upon completion of the Spartan III program many of Wolf's teammates noticed oddities spring up in Wolf he was prone to fits of laughter even in the most dire of circumstances and fits of rage in a tranquil setting it and speaking to himself in full conversations. Though his teammates thought him crazy he was loyal to them to the end even at the risk of getting captured or shot. Eventually his team was wiped out in an unknown mission, regarding a possible dissenter in a high level potion. Upon return from the mission he was sent to a mental hospital for a short period to ensure that he remained loyal to the UNSC and for a Psych Evaluation
Psych Eval:
!!WARNING DO NOT PROCEED WITHOUT CLEARANCE!!
Dr. Ross:This guy....he is 100% crazy he can't handle not having a weapon in hand...He can't relax for long and if there is nothing to do he will "entertain himself"...As for his loyalty it remains rock solid and he would give his life for anyone in a UNSC uniform without hesitation...However ANYBODY not under UNSC protection or uniform should be kept a far distance away from him...I've seen the videos of what he did to some "prisoners" and lets just say it won't end well....If anybody in uniform would be able to tolerate him is another story...His fits of laughter and troubling remarks are distressing to say the least...I would personally recommend him to a nice facility because even for a Spartan this dude is nuts...But he is operationally ready and that's all High command cares about so....Take him away.... After a brief assignment to Spider Team, the death of two of her team members and the team leader sustaining critical injuries the team was disbanded, and Vera is currently awaiting reassignment . . .

OOC: I don't want to sound too nit-picky, but if I remember correctly, it wasn't technically possible to ENLIST in the Spartan III program.

I'll put up a charrie sheet for this later tonight.

Secondary Character:

Spartan - A041 "Duke"
Homeworld:  Eposz, Reach
Born: Sep 8, 2517
Enlisted in Spartan Program: 2539
Rank: Chief Warrant Officer

His father was a Captain in the UNSC Navy was killed along with his crew during the battle of Harvest he was orphaned, his mother had died when he was born.   He was requited to join the Spartan III program after showing signs of strength and battle intuition.   He began his tour with the younger but more experienced Alpha Company during the Battle of New Constantinople.   This is where he met Spartan-A172 or Marc.   After seeing Marcs strategic approach to battle he began calling him Hannibal after one of his most revered Military commanders.    While he himself Duke had a more direct approach he worked well wish his fellow Spartan.   After requesting to be squad-ed up with A172 he quickly became his right hand.  While he let "Hannibal" do most of the planning and talking, he does not sit idle in a battle.  He is known for accuracy with a Magnum and his keen favor of alien tech.   He fancies himself a scientist at times, helping pioneer the use of cloaking adapted from elite shields.

OOC: While this is my character, I think I would be neat if he was allowed to be used by anyone.   Say you want to do something in character but do not want to bunny someones character.      Spartan III's "would rely on superior battle tactics, teamwork and sheer numbers rather than advanced technology."  if you are wondering why I made a second charri.

Name: Jacob Callahan
Born: 2509 January 7
Rank: 2nd Lt.
Homeworld: Earth (Germany)
Born and raised on Earth, Friedrich wasn't the average candidate for the ODST, with less experience then was generally expected. Regardless of his apparent shortcomings, Friedrich proved to be an able combatant, and eventually earned himself a place as a member of a recon support team for a group of Spartan-IIIs
(Note: I already went ahead and cleared this with Drake)

Name: A048 'Rusty'
Rank: Lieutenant
Bio: Rusty was abducted from an orphanage by the SIII program, as many of the others were. He sees his job not as something to be relished, but something that must be done. Rusty is very confident in his abilities, and of his purpose in life. Besides, he has no problem with wasting hostiles, be they human or otherwise.

Rusty was recently part of a mission into Covenant-occupied space, to gather intel on the fate of a small outer colony. They found the colony had not been glassed yet, and was being mined for Forerunner artifacts. A small group of survivors was located, but the fear of being discovered proved too great for one member of Rusty's team. The man broke down and caused them to be discovered. Most of the team was killed, including the survivors, leaving only Rusty and his previous partner Dusty alive.

Personality: Quiet and reserved, but firm when speaking. Not afraid of weighty decisions or tight situations.

Oronk, look at your character. Now look at everyone else's. Do you really believe that these other soldiers want a crazy guy watching their back, or will let him kill civilians whenever we come across them?

And do not forget, you can always scrap the character and make a new, saner one. The rest of us will just take it as Psyco never being there if you choose to do so.

All of their callsigns are on the first page. They're all "Kilo-#" designations. Spartans, since they are so easily recognized, do not use covert operator identifiers.

"So, how long does it usually take for a group of genetically modified, power armored, special forces divas to prep for combat?" Worth asked, scanning the area with his rifle's scope. The trio were kneeling close together, facing each way.

"Hell if I know Slipsteam, but they should have been here by now, our position is a little to exposed if you ask me."  Callahan said, as he checked his rifle for what was probably the seventh time since they cleared Kilo for their drop. "God damnit, I cant shake the feeling this is gonna jam up on me."

Powers stood up. "Screw it, why do we even need them, man? We've got two tough-as-nails, rough-and-tumble Helfighters and a god damed O-" before he could finnish, a purpleish metal egg-shaped object fell from the sky and crushed him.

--LADY LUCK PREDATOR REPORTS HAR- -- As Worth roared into his comm, the door of the pod burst open, and collided into him with enough force to send him flying, bit of his visor showering outward. A lone, gold armored alien stepped from the pod, and drew an energy blade.

"JESUS CHRIST, F UCK!"  Callahan raised his assault rifle, and pulled the trigger. The satisfying cough of his gun never happend. He looked down, yanked on the slide, attempting to clear the jam as the alien slowly approached. He cleared the jam and slapped in another magazine. He looked up and pointed the gun. The alien was upon him. It slapped the gun from his hand with its free hand, and roared, its mandibles spreading wide. As it did this it pulled its sword-arm back, and jammed the blade into Callahan with enough power to lift him off of his feet. Callahan's head jerked up and looked into the face of the beast that had murdered him. The alien huffed, a noise that seemed so much like a laugh and yet so far from what one was used to hearing, and  it grabbed Callahan by the neck as it pulled its blade from him, and tossed him aside as though he were no heavier then a small animal.

Callahan hit the ground with a thud, the pain that exploded in his head as it hit the back of his helmet paled in comparison to that in his abdomen. He looked over as the alien walked away, and said something in a guttural voice. His eyes drifted upward as a large ship hung above them in orbit. Its sides lit up, and it began to rain fire towards the FOB. Callahan tried to breath, but as he exhaled he began to cough fiercely, his blood splattering the inside of his helmets visor. He watched as the creature looked up wards, and his vision began to fade to black.

Worth was struggling to remain conscious. The remnants of his visor were embedded into his face. As he looked about, he saw a ship overhead. It rained fire into the FOB, and in his head, Worth knew that had killed everyone. What was even worse? Not one, but two goddamn Anti-Air emplacements were being dropped in. A platoon of elites were sheparding in twice as many grunts. Worth could even see the glow of a Scarab tank's main gun through to dust.

"Mother fu-" was all Worth could say before a boot crushed his head and ended his life.

That's for everyone who told us to hurry up, and have yet to do anything to continue the plot.

Because I actually have an inkling about real military tactics, unlike Bungie.

You send in the expendable shock troops(ODST's) to clear an LZ. Since AA kills people irrespective of their combat skill, you don't want the big, expensive guns (Spartans) to go down to land. Once an LZ is clear, you let the big guns go down, since they wont get shot down. Once on the ground, their combat skill will keep them alive and enable them to complete their objectives.

Also, they are Recon ODST's, that is their job.

Also, you guys are Spartan-III's, not the Master Chief.

And like I said, N-11 is both a big boy, and a competent RPer. He can catch up. Also, it is hypocritical to give AA and I crap about "hurrying up", and then not doing so yourselves.

N-11 can deal with people moving on without him, trust me. I've RPed with him enough to know it's not hard at all for him to catch up.

Thank you.

Just for everyone's general information, I have been basically living at a theater this week, with all-day rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday, and four shows Friday and Saturday.

Theres a difference between tier 1 operators and your normal run of the mill (if you can call them that) soldiers.

By that logic then calling Tier 1 that came from, say, the SEALs, would still be considered Navy men. Same thing as calling ODSTs Marines, or Hellfighters ODSTs. I don't know why its ticking you guys off.

No dude i get it. Hellfighters are ODSTs the same way members of Tier 1 are SEALs.

Do you call a soldier a pilot because he flies into battle on a helicopter? No, you don't. Thus why these guys are ticked when you call them ODST's. An ODST is a Marine who volunteers for a special service. These guys are from the Special Forces, so they consider themselves different. It is a matter of unit pride.

Dude they dropped into battle in HEVs, only ODSTs do that. They wear and use ODST equipment. Therefor Hellfighters = ODSTs

Dha'Ward, another thing: Worth&Powers are not your characters, so what you say about them doesn't matter. It's what I say that does.

No, but you are insisting they are ODST's. In character creation I decided they were not, so that is how I will play them.

Its is still going to be easier just to say ODSTs. rather then Hellfighters.

Also this conversation made me make this.

If you call the characters ODST's, don't be surprised if they take issue with it. End of story.

Let's all take a deep breath and realize a few things here.

1: Drake and Adeptus. In your character descriptions, you said your characters were SpecWarCom operators whose unit was specifically known as 'Hellfighters'. But you also said that you were an ODST Recon support team, and Adeptus specifically said "he wasn't the average candidate for the ODST". That fact, combined with your ODST appearance and use of ODST equipment, I think a lot of people assumed you were a BRANCH of the ODST's, not a completely different unit.

2: I noticed that the other Spartan players didn't catch onto the fact you guys were a different unit, but I didn't say anything because it could have been a somewhat interesting conversation piece at some point in the story. I also made sure my character never addressed them as ODST's, I only used it in my character's personal thoughts. Rusty called them 'Hellfighters' in the briefing room.  I was planning on using it later, but now that people have thrown a hissy fit over it, I guess not.  Remember, if you want a good RPG, not all mistakes and/or misunderstandings by your character are negative. You can use them to your advantage later.

3:
But to prove a point if you ever meet a Delta force guy, call him a ranger.
No shi t, sherlock. Guess what, a Delta Force operator would never identify himself as a Ranger Recon Unit. There is blame to be laid on both sides for this confusion and subsequent argument.
So 117 was an ODST on Delta Halo?
Adeptus, you are brand new here. I would appreciate it if you weren't a twat to our several-year veteran members. You knew what he meant, this comment was out of pure smartass idiocy.

If you look at it, that is exactly what I was trying to do in the RP. Then I get thrown this:

Drake i understand your Hellfighters but your still ODSTs. Hence why we keep calling them that.

Which forces me to explain, out of character, why my guys care. Then I'm told I'm wrong, and that my guys really are ODST's, so I shouldn't be making the point in the RP.

Pro Tip: When a character disagrees with your character, don't try and sort it out out of character.

Yeah, I figured that is what you were going for. That's why I said nothing and played along.

Which forces me to explain, out of character, why my guys care. Then I'm told I'm wrong, and that my guys really are ODST's, so I shouldn't be making the point in the RP.

Pro Tip: When a character disagrees with your character, don't try and sort it out out of character.

Hence why I tried to explain in the above post, because the others didn't notice the distinction.

Very good point! All good RPG's have good character-on-character conflict.
